How to properly store a guitar at home

I think this question has been asked, but the post was deleted when soft was hacked, so umm, here's the situation-
I switch on my aircon every night, I have two guitar stands, 1 with a neckrest and the other without a neckrest. So should I put it in a softcase then put on the stand or just leave it on the stand without a softcase.

oh btw, can tell me which guitar stand is better. :)

Since my main concern is the strings, i always put my guit back into my soft case. Itz been abt 2 weeks & my black diamond strings r reli gd as new, though i'v been playing for quite a stretch. I always use formulated cloth to rub across the fretboard/strings b4 & after playing. And also at the end of every practice i apply the DR polymer coating slightly, while i'd occasionally use a cleaning solution & guitar polish to take care of the solid body, preserve itz color, keep the bridge shining, n also to remove any residue frm the pickups. Bt do be aware tht u cannot just use any solution directly onto the pickups, some r specially made to handle tht. Ofcourse in the presence of open air where there r so many gases evn when the a/c is on, ur strings would die out faster. So i recommend the gig bag :D

I read in the straits times life!, there was this dude who turned on the aircon(18 degrees C) 24/7 to protect his array of guitars that were on the stands.

oh that guy is breheinger ceo for asia...dunno how to spell the brand name lar guys..hehe sorry..

beh-ring-er, haha, anw i store mi guitars on mi trusty rockstand, and i wipe down my string everytime with wd40 after i play, anw i don't recommend doing this on non-coated fretboards such as rosewood

whoa wd40. dont let that touch anything but the strings! (dont your fingers feel unbelievably grimey/slippery the next time u play?)

Store it away from light and heat, somewhere not so humid and damp. Keep it away from temperature changes (Windows, near heaters, etc.) . For me , I keep mine in a hardcase, upright in my closet. Wipe down the strings with the formulated string cloth and nothing else. Don't wipe down each time you put down the guitar, wipe down when you're done playing for the day, prior to returning to the case.

Yeahh man thtz the worst part of wd

I don't bother putting my guitars in case. A standard cleaning wipe after the playing session, then they're back on their respective stands.

I try not to use air con unless the weather is just bad. Air con, the moisture and all really speeds up the rusting of strings. Good idea to have a dehumidifier around.

I see i see, but the thing is i switch it(air con) on every night, so would it be better if i leave it in a gigbag ever night after playing :)

Btw, thanks for the advice so far guys. :)

yea thats what i do. preferbly a thick gig back that can maintain the inner temperature to keep it constant not those thin ones. mine is so thick it can stand on its own lol. no joke, even spikes saw it and bought one for himself. my rg inside the bag fell flat on the ground 3 times, not a scratch, crack or dent.

dude, aircon sucks the moisture out of the air.

the moment u turn off the air con, phooooooooo your guit is gonna "sweat", condensation. and depends, SOME air cons come with humidifiers, like most office air cons. anyhow, i like to leave mine in hardcases or gig bags, room temp, in a cool corner of the room.

there will only be condensation when the surface of the guitar is very cold and the surrounding air is moist.
This is a very unlikely scenario if we're talking abt a normal bedroom with moderately cool air-conditioning.

Yea, the condensation effect. It doesn't happen like, overnight or something. But if you keep it up, or if you have friends partying and you have the air conditioner running on full for a couple days or so, while having the door opened and closed, the guitar strings will rust.

An extremely unreliable unit yes. I refrain from turning it on cos my sweaty palms react wildly the moment the unit is on. Air-con = lousy environment for playing and storing. That's just me. :D
