How to increase ur vocal range?

i don't have any experience in vocalise-sation but i'll tip u on wat i learnt from ... somewhere.
when ever we're warming up or singing a song and it's a pitch that we can't really reach, we would so called 'squat', using our 'abs' to help us breathe better because after breathing better, you'll sing better and perhaps, reach the high notes.
you also must be aware of the tension u're putting around your neck. your spine should be straight to let the air pass through easily.
it might be classified under breathing techniques but breathing does help with singing which i'm sure we all know tt.
er... yeah. i did test these out and it worked for me! if you don't get it, i'm alright with it because i didn't really get it too.

of course must practice la...

i've a friend who wants her band to be like atreyu. drums and lead vocals. but i don't know how its going...

The best way to learn singing is to join a choir or a club. Cuz singing lessons don't give you the amount of exposure you need.

About range stretching, it is possible. but don't try to jump from a bass to a tenor. Unless you do it professionally, you'd probably ruin your voice trying to jump and octave or just half.

One thing about being in a band, none should take covers too seriously. Most amateurbands I heard trying to play someone else's song screw up. They can be good, but just not the perfect band for the song. Your own shoes always fits you best. Professional band songs are too pro for you, and they are written for themselves, not you. Chances are you and your band will be better off writting your own songs and playing them, plus you can feel deeper for the song.

Unless you're in a competition for vocal range, just try your best to make the best music out of your range. If you aim for that boyish simple plan/yellowcard voice when you're something around SOAD, then you're listening to too much punk/rock. It's a misconception that only those voices sound good, cuz you hear so much of pop/punk on the radio.

Okie....

To sing high notes...

Dont open your mouth too big...
Control your throat...
ofcourse train up your stomach muscle...

cheers!!

usually everyone has a fixed range, but no one really knows how wide their range is unless they try pitching it...
for me, usually if i hear someone hit the note, doesn't matter if he/she cracks or splits, as long as the note can be hit verbally without making you drop dead on the floor, then that note is a part of your range but it has to be developed into your comfort range...

i think most of the posts here already gave great tips on vocal range..
it has to be developed, trained everyday, doing scales, mouth-vowelling and air for projection and support to warm it all into your comfort range..

it's pretty sad that many people these days, just like how fast-speed guitar wankers are viewed, think that the high note is everything..
anyone can hit a high note if they tried hard enough, but whether the tone is listenable and won't make the audience's ears bleed, that's a different story...

Doing that, you will probably kill yourself..

Use your diaphragm... I said this umpteen times some where else.

Open your mouth, stick 3 fingers in it, at least that size. Then sing to the note. Use consannance or vowels. It will be easier to pronnouce the word.

Take deep breathes. And do not push your voice box.... Do not strain it. Reach only what you can. Then from there take it slow.

vocal range

Well i'm no expert,
but i kinda do my vocal range praticing this way.

but i think before ya do anything
you should check first if your singing
technique is the right way and all.
so you dont go damaging your throat.

if you have a piano, keyboard or anithng
that denotes the music scale.
(i tried using a guitar once, but errr couldn't catch the note
as well as hearing it from a piano, but thats just me :D)
try everyday or maybe when you feel like it
to sing in pitch with every key you play.

when your confident enough go for a higher key
(or a lower key if you desire a lower range).
i think you should take your time.

no point rushing in. :)

I don't understand why people want to increase their vocal range so much....??? Every female singer wants to be the next Whitney Houston and every guy wants to be the next Bon Jovi....
It sounds horrible trying to force that vocal range in... and honestly, you don't need to scream and have the highest key or lowest key, that doesn't make ya a great singer.
Times have change, trend have change, look at Michael Buble and a lot of more recent singers. People are looking at style, not whether you can sing the highest key. People are looking at voice quality and character. Elvis didn't have to scream at his highest pitch for people to like him. A lot of R&B singers don't scream much, but mostly use accentation as their key element.

yes... using the diaphragm is teh tricky part...

i've been trying to use it but i find it inconsistent... is it due to my mouth not opening wideenough or i'm doing sumthing wrong?

my comfort range is around alto... though with much effort, i can hit low C, which is quite soft and high C which sounds strained...

Thats if ure talking bout how to sing RNB. when actaully i dont even consider that singing. we talking those rock, emo, punk kind of music. so if you dont like it. dont follow this thread.
i really do think having a good vocal range outclasses all those rnb and whjat micheal buble or shit. and like what the hell is micheal buble singing.

yup, I whole agree with that. Its not what you can sing, its more of how you sing it.

I won't mind if you don't sound like Tarja!
hahaha...

I remember how people used to be so fascinated with Amy Lee's voice. But now the excitement kinda faded.

There're two ways, first one is using the choir training method:

Train your breathing technique first, then slowly sing a range frm low to high.....

I dont know how to explain...
it's like la la la la la la la.....

As you move on, get your keys as high as possible, and practise practise.

Second way is teh rock method:

whenever you trying to reach a high note, strain for it, using your diaphragm's "power" and taking in high amt of breath in.

I wouldnt recommend the second one, cos' there're side effects, your voice in the long-run, becomes husky....
