how to counterbalance a heavy LP?

I've been playing for a year and my first guitar is a full size LP, like comparable to gibson standard, and without a leather strap it sags downwards whcih can get pretty irritating.

I know many ppl face the same problem, im still looking for a good item to counterweigh it, but what exaclty? i mean like do you put there and dpo you like clip it to the strap or what?

its the nature of the lp ..gotta live with it or try the specail X shaped strap - heard about it b4 - try researching in the net

seriously bro

have you seen zakk wylde's arms or slash's physique?
i am been playing LP type guitars for some long years and I'm no chickadee
i am 1.79m tall 110kg wrestler wannabe
and yes..LP's are heavy so need some muscle power there

and yes as big bro fgl mentioned either live with it or try the x-strap (i dunno wat it is)

=bro dime
i think the LP no brakes..hahahaha whatever that means :)

tie a brick to the end strap pin. haha

what i meant to say is... you should get a strap with backing that has friction, so it wont slide downwards. suede backs work well for me.

and no you dont need to be a 1.8m tall giant mass of pulsing muscle to play a lespaul.

i tihnk most asian guys like us wont have any problems with its weight... well if you are 38kg and 1.3m tall ..maybe slight problem la.

i usually play 3hr straight sets standing with my old gibby standard and my lp wasnt one of those light ones either.

counterweight

noun
1. a weight that balances another weight

This scale should go to the gym to balance itself out.

if you cant deal with the lp then get sg la.much lighter.and sounds like lp too.

sg will neck dive more than a lp...so yeah...no point cos he has mentioned that he is ok with the weight only that it is neck-diving...a good strap will do the job...both my sg and lp dun neck dive due to a good grip surface of my strap..

lolness i'm 1.8m ant 75 kg im not bothered by the WEIGHT itself!

but i think one of ya get my predicaement, neck dive is it? where the headstock side goes down, so the whole guitar like points downwards.

What are X straps? I have leather strap but if a counterweight works i'll try that out too.

erm...but counter weight also ADDS to the overall weight of the guitar.
kinda overkill if you just want the headstock to point upwards...

a good non-slip strap will work. period.

Hmm.

Adding on to the non-slip leather straps, you would also do well to invest in locking strap pins e.g. schaller or Dunlop. Nothing worse than having a good strap that prevents your guitar neck-diving but still comes loose in the end...

agreed..thats why all my guitars use dunlop straplocks and a good set of leather straps...cannot save on this kinda stuff...buy such an expensive guitar...use cheap straps and cables...cannot cannot...:p

Hmm.

I am using the Schaller and Dunlop on seperate guitars... kinda disappointed that the Dunlop one tarnished so quickly.

However through a quick comparison between the Schaller and Dunlop, I have a feeling the Schaller would withstand more abuse, esp since the mechanism is that of a "pull" rather than a "push" on the Dunlop. Schaller one feels more solid too.
