How to analyze music?

Atonal music is analysed differently. If you look at the score, they are way different from what one is familar with. For those who had not seen them before, they look like chicken scratches. Instead of 4/4 or 3/4 timing, they have 7 secs, 1 min 3 secs etc to determine timing.
