Im learning from an instructor,.. a local session player n producer here, n he sez tt i should change strings every week before i go lessons,.. he sez get the cheap brand, its around 4 bucks one n change every week, personally id rather stick to my usual, daddario xl, but yeah change every week,.. a bit steep on the expenditure,... any comments?

personally, i would get a string cleaner and wipe the strings after every session to maintain their integrity. Changing strings is a nag.

Anyways just wondering wot strings and gauge do u guys use? I'm using DR 0.10s. Comparatively better tone than 9s which sound really thin

well..it depends on how frequent u play ur guitar..quality of strings used..there's no fixed duration on how long ur strings should be there..i change my strings one a month even if they are not dirty. Sometimes once evry 2 months if i rarely touch my guitars..

its a norm for me to wash my hands, wipe with clean cloth and then apply some sanitizer to my hand before i pick up my baby..juz to make sure my hands are realli clean..after practising i use a cotton cloth and wipe it across my strings..sometimes i use some old cotton tshirts of mine..if i need to put it in the case, i'll wrap the fretboard with a cotton cloth first. i change the cloth once a month too. These practices help to preserve my strings longer..

by the way, i always use GHS Boomers 10 strings..juz personal preference..

ok,.. yeah i usually change once a month, but am not really to u know concerned about being clean to the guitars, i juz lean the strings with a string cleaner before i play with it, since i only got one guitar its seen heavy use so i think might need to change more than once a month but once a week its too heavy for me liaoz.
I use d addario 10-46, coz its cheap n common, n sounds good to me, was thinking of switching to DRs, or others mabbe later.
I was thinking off getting a top light heavy bottom strings, Daddario 10-56 but they are rare and i need to re setup the guitar if i do tt,.. a bit mahfan ,.. but id like to try tho,..

me..i change it once i start to see the string get a lil rust or 'dirty'..as in black black at the bridge there..u know..sweat? ha...yeah always wipe off after playing to preserve string life..might wanna try fastfret too..i don't change often cos i don't gig..sound so good also not much use..:) just for practise..anyway change so often need $$$..don't got much haha

u guys change all 6 strings? usually, the the thinner strings wear out very fast, and the thicker bass strings is still pretty much as good as new. It would a waste of $$ to replace those strings.

For me, i replace the thinner strings( bought separately) only when snapped, keeping the bass strings. And yes.. i use fastfret too..

Ek, I dread using fastfret. Doesn't clean under the strings, and leaves lots of "fibres" wedged under the frets and caught on the strings. Not to mention, the applicator starts to look really disgusting after some time.

strings r changed abt every 2 weeks - as clubbing wear/tear n practice, takes it toll on all 6. LaBella strings have given good clarity for my Strat. ESP n Dean Markley strings also work well for me.

Its 9s for my Strat in Eb tuning. 10s for my Pacifica in D tune n 12s when i drop to Low B tuning.

Well for me..i had it replace once a month...im using Fender .009 Superbullets...its sounds great on my Ibanez RG Series..!

Yeah i re-string all 6 strings, even if 1 snaps.

Heard from some people that, if you only replace 1, the sound maybe a

little diff. No idea. :)

Your teacher can't possibly tell if you just changed your strings before a lesson? Is he gonna scold you if you don't change strings? A string change is advisable before a recording, set it up and leave it overnight.

well ive only been to one lesson, the first seems pretty good, ill change before i go for the next lesson, so yeah,.. but ill try if i can like ask him to let me juz change strings every 2 weeks or sumthing

No need change so often one. He's not gonna scold or anything if you dont change strings? Save the cost for a tuner for something. Change only if it breaks or justs rsuty. Or only before a gig or recording, leave the strings overnight to get it "seasoned". I think your teacher is a tad too fussy. If your a pro player and have the money to change every time, good for you Save the money, no need to change so often one.

^^thats wad i thought too. if its just for practise, no point using brand new strings. even rusty strings are usable( most guitars in jamming studios are.).

not much difference using old strings i think. except when ur sliding alot up and down the fretboard.. old strings have alot of friction on ur skin.. not so nice feeling.

change ur strings only when ur performing or recording. Imagine how much u can save if u use the same strings for 6 months. I'm on a tight budget, so thats usually wad i do.

yucks...dislikes fast fret..it makes my frets corrodes/rust. also it gives a very squeaky feeling while playing..almost like sombody scratching the blackboard with nails.....*eeeks*... wat i find works best is to clean with cloth/tissue before and after each play...

btw..i've got really toxic perspiration..even more so when in air condition environment...not just my hands..my toes start to sweat ..hehe

does fast fret corrode frets? nv heard before.

i change strings twice a month. not much compared to my teacher who changed strings once in 3 days on a floyd. cos he drop out of school and play guitar for 8 hrs a day. haha.

well..my frets only showed signs of corrosion after i started using fastcrap on not just 1 guitar
before tat..it was just the strings
