Hi, how much should i spend if im serious on learning guitar? I saved up quite a bit of sum during my part time on holidays, around 1.5k. Any recommendation? I just want a simple and comfortable guitar, a hassle free one. I always wanted to learn guitar after accidently saw eric johnson cliffs of dover on youtube. Any guitar teachers willing to take me? I know very little about rock bands, got no music except some guitar lessons that i took during secondary days for a boy bridage badge, but could no longer rem anything. Is 18 too old for learning guitar?

any guitar teachers would take you if you have enough money. however, no matter how good a teacher is, you won't be able to go far if you're lazy. guitar-wise, depends on what you want to play. rock? blues? pop? metal?

Hmm i want to play blues and rock. I want a good guitar teacher who can push me, i can be lazy :( I want to leearn to play fast :D

blues and rock? can gimme examples of artists/bands? if you're lazy, no amount of pushing/encouragin/cussing/swearing would help you to progress. one more thing. learn how to play slow then you can play fast :)

I like eric johnson, cliffs of dover and manhatten, beatles while my gently weeps, eric clapton you look wonderful tonight

sounds like a strat kinda guy then. 2 recommendations. if you think you're not gonna be that serious about guitar, just the kind of hobbyist, you can either get a samick greg bennet or the sx starter pack. both are not too shabby for the price. if you're gonna stick to playing guitar then, go down to Luther or G77 and try out the strats they have there. see which one you like.

yup a strat will suit the stuff u mentioned, think u can start with the guitars strats suggested...

nope 18 nt too old, i started @ 18 too....gd luck :D

i really wan to be serious in playing guitar. If a beginner holding a decent guitar, will it be weird?

nope won't be weird.but seriously, if this is gonna be your first guitar, start small. get either an acoustic first or the samick greg bennet or both :D

no you wont, i believe a good guitar will motivate you to play even better, plus it will prob be easier and more toneful to play on then some other budget starter packs (no offence to starter pack users)

Not all all. I was 16 when I took a second serious look at the instrument, and with inspiration from a peer, I decided that I would give it a shot. Prior to that, it was just strumming and picking on classicals and acoustics.

Don't let age hinder your dreams!

try the behringer guitar pack. $200 nia. the only place i know that sells it is goofer music at katong mall.

id recommending getting a jap strat from ishibashi. should set u back by under 1k with shipping and all. den i suggest taking the rest of the money and getting a good amp.

im of the school of belief that u should get the very best gear u can afford at that time. buying beginners guitars den slowly upgrading will make u spend more money in the long run and also taking more time to get to that good guitar. the jap strat im recommending is a great guitar and should last u a pretty darned long time unless u plan to do a hendrix on it or something.

take it as a good investment. :D

on the other hand, i believe in beginners pack. because ur not too sure if u're definitely going to be sticking with it. who noes, u may get bored, or no time to practise, and in the end ur ex guitar becomes a white elephant.

Hm, sorry to use the thread...

So Stratocaster is better at playing blues kind of music ( I dunno if I get this right )

Then how other kind of guitar suits with? eg. LP, Flying V...
