How many times have you bought the BOSS DS-1?

Never.

Gonna get a DS-2, though
Honestly speaking THOA, it is not advisable to get the DS2 cause it is not the same animal as the DS1 at all!! I had it before I got my first stock DS1 and to me it sound crappy......and once you get some mods for the DS1.....you can just bin the DS2 into oblivion keke.

"The design of the DS-1 has changed significantly twice throughout its lifetime. First time was around 1994 when the Toshiba TA7136AP opamp was replaced with the Rohm BA728N. In 2000 the opamp was again changed. This time it was replaced with the Mitsubishi M5223AL. Regardless of the circuit changes, the DS-1 sounds just like it did when first released back in 1978. "

The above statement is not true ...imo!
DS-1 best with TA7136AP ;)

i had a MIJ DS-1. not my cup of tea. sold it like 2 years ago...

den borrowed my friends ds-1 to try side by side with a crunchbox. Now im gassing for a crunchbox......

agreed shredcow. i forgot to mention i was looking for marshall in a box tones, and i remembered the mij ds1 i had eons ago had a hint of what i may have wanted. so i just tried it out along with a crunchbox for fun. anyways i would never use a stock ds1 for my primary drive. maybe just as a booster. cheers.

Hee hee... this reeks of boutique-ness! arrogance! cork-sniffing! What do you mean the stock DS1 isn't good enough!

Hilarious... I recall big reactions last time when boutique stuff was first introduced to the forum... knee jerk reactions. Now its heartily accepted. Nice! :)

haha such dramatic irony...that statement shred!

i find a stock ds-1's sound pretty unusable.....unless if the tone is kept at 9 o'clock. otherwise its good for punk rock and grunge genres....

With my old mij ds1 - the tone control is usable up till... 1 o'clock (with low gain).

Surprisingly, gain at 0 and tone @ 1 o'clock sounds sorta like a silicon fuzz face (with appropriate lower gain settings).

Anyhow, the MIJ DS1s (older ones) are the nicer stock DS1s... along, without comparison with other pedals (those i own), they are nice. Nice spongy tone and they do interpret the neck pup rather nicely - different output pickups and pup voicings are also represented nicely. Works very very well pushing an amp or pedal.

I always use this clip to "show off" the MIJ DS1's tone...
