how many here use laptop/notebook for music?

The notebook will come with a recovery disk. Vista is in that disk. Since recovery disk usually installs Windows into c: drive by default, you only have to first make sure your XP is installed in another drive (eg d: drive). Then run your recovery disk and get Vista installed on c:. Done.

If the notebook does not come with a recovery disk, you've been duped. Better go back to the place where you bought it and get it from them.

Cheez, for most people, I have come to notice that the availability (or lack thereof) of software for each platform is negligible. It only really matters when we go higher up the scale, meaning professional work, no?

Actually, you're quite right. It only becomes a problem if somebody already owns a software that only runs in one platform but not the other. Than he's stuck with that platform.

Eg: Sonar only runs on PC, Gigastudio only runs on PC, Logic only runs on Mac etc.

I'm a hobbyist. Since 2001, I've decided to go the Gigastudio way. And I've been stuck with PC since then.

u shud have a factore reset CD and a copy of windows CD .. if not, u've been cheated .... like one of my friend ....

ur windows shud be a genuine original copy of windows and shud have a CD with the Serial No there .... as a proof that u own it ..

Actually, you won't have the Windows CD. In notebooks, the Windows software is embedded in the recovery disk. If the recovery disk bear the original manufacturer's mark on it, you are fine. However, you should have the original Windows certificate in your box. It will have the sticker etc, but will not have any Windows CD in it.

I talk to my brother. It seem he don't really want xp to be installed.

Does Cubase SX, Adobe Audition, Acid Pro 6.0 and overture work with vista?

Anyone know?

Normally I'd just create recovery disks and delete away the recovery partition  Last time my laptop no dvd burner, wrote about 12 or 13 CDs for XP! :x
