how do you cut thru, while playing in a band?

ahhh...Now i see it..The problem is GT-2 is an emulated pedal.Running it to amp input makes it sound muddy.

Hmmm... actually, I think its fine to run the GT2 like so. Take it as a normal distortion pedal with excellent (READ: Bloody sensitve) treble/bass eq controls. I don't see how running the GT2 to an amp would be muddy.

Try it this way....guitar->ts7->gt-2->chorus->EQ pedal->amp effect rtn....So that way no tweaking of amp tone ctrl..Yr EQ pedal gives all the tone that u need.

The main issue Sansamp users have with running straight to amp, isn't so much of the eq IMO, its how the amp colours the tone. You know, a Marshall amp sounds, well, like a Marshall? Fender cleans, are described as Fender-ish? And so on. Some ppl like the way the amp colour the tone... like for me, I love the Kustom 30RC's fat, warm cleans, I love the way it makes my tri ac sound, so I choose to run straight in.

If you like your amp's (clean) tone, you can just use the amp's eq...

In the first place, i assumed everyone is playing at the top of their voices.
So everyone wants to cut thru, u up ur volume, i up somemore. Vox cant hear himself,up the PA. drummer then Buay-Song, Whack damn hard... Thump thump thump Crasshhhh!!!!!!.... the guitarist Steamed, up his volume, then....Eeee.......EEEeee...... got lotsa feedback. everyone , u look at me, i look at you.

See?

.If u want to hear how good the gt2 sound being emulated then plug it @ efx rtn.Compare for yrself.Some ppl may not like it but i like how it sound and actually gt2 emulated sounds, is much better than line6 pod,vamp or any multi fx... :lol:

Alot of times, some playing parts arent meant to stand 'in front' of the mix' but sorta behind. It basically means that part of your guitar frequencies ARE meant to be lost in the mix, especially live. All this in a bid to make the band sound better playing certain songs. Examples i can think of: Dave Matthew's acoustic, John Petrucci doing rhythm behind Labrie's voice, U2's The Edge's delay melodies behind Bono and some of Clayton. Alot of times, its not just about Eq-ing and such, but rather cooperating with bandmates to make the band sound 'logical'. Have fun and listen to all your bandmates!

alright exams are over, time to doodle with the guitar :D

here's my gt2 setting
gt2.jpg

and my ts7 setting
ts7.jpg

and here's the setup

guitar -> gt2 -> ts7 -> amp

i kinda found out that switching my gain setting from hi-gain to hot-wired kinda helps, as it kinda gives it this crunch compared to the milder hard overdrive the hi-gain setting gave me.

mamemo for solo normally i boost by using an eq pedal..(din like clean boost)i cut the freq that i dun wan and boost what is wanted..so a little tone change there...

on ur set up..hav u tried putting the chorus in front? since u use it just for clean...or are u using the chorus to split (stereo output) to a second amp?

btw adding slight delay might help too "widen" the tone..

just notice that the ts7 is after the GT2...hmm that look strange to me..

Slight deviation from the standard cuttin thru idea...

Lead guitarist -Walk right up to the front of the stage and solo that way any DAY DREAMING soundman will have a SLIGHT IDEA ...Oh guitar solo...mayyyyybee...I should increase the lead guitar volume? ....If after 5 secs into the solo still not cutting through - how about lookin up (with a surprised/annoyed look? at the sound ppl's direction ....

When Riki Hendrix opened for Deep Purple in SG last tyme... he tried dat - the local crew still day dreaming before his fiery char bo manager used her HP to call and F*** the stage manager & sound guys...

Sounds like a good idea....my lead guitarist always gets cut out by the soundmen, and they usually never ever turn him back on in the mix....maybe I should tell him to do the same.

I personally just use a classic simple setting to cut through from the rest of the band.

guitar --> line6ubermetal --> bossDelay ---> DunlopCryBaby ---> BossEQ
---> amp.

Turn the uber metal to what u prefer really.
but the key i feel is your amp tweaking.

set the treble to around 78%
gain to the max.
Bass to around 75%
and cut the mids down to around 20%
and presence to the max.

and make sure your guitar has a good volume conrtrol.
i use 2 cheap guitars. SX and a sammick.
but using the bossEQ makes the guitar sound $$$
