TO THOR

sorry i have to caps it , its to differiante, i do agree people doing other genre of music rather than main stream succeed but u definately need to get pple to know you first and to do that u still got to do main stream and den inject ur style into the music .

thats what i feel and i guess alot of people feel too. you need to be famous or to show that ur stuff carrys the weight the canons to go along b4 you start injecting ur style or ur likes to a music . i hope you get what i mean. :D

imho, marley wasn't a revolutionary or innovator, i believe that the music form and its exponents existed over the years. he was The One who burst it on the world. just like rock, it has existed over the yrs

i want us to think abt drawing from our very own experiences to make and evolve what we currently have, to put into word and chord chart, to move ppl and say "yeah, that was what i feel as well". can a singaporean do that? will that mean success to our eyes?

its hard to be known/famous locally before hitting the cultural strongholds of taiwan/HK/korea/japan.

i know that these hardworking ppl are getting what they worked hard for, but we are still not a pop culture capital. we're in charge and we need to make it so :D

when can a singaporean youth in lime magazine stop wearing jrock/harajuku/hiphop/emo/punk?

and

when can a japanese/american/taiwanese/korean start wearing singapore orchid shirt/dress?

OhhhhmmmhhhO

To know people etc, to get your things going - hard work. I don't mean you have to be alternative, but you can't be riding on the wave, which many have that kind of mentality. Fads come and go, good music is timeless. Practically though, you would expect that, for the more experimental and complex, heavy music you play, the less your fan base in general.

* Edit - I meant mainstream as whatever the current trend is, not so much as whether it's pop or rock or any other genre.

But you still haven't defined success. So the question remains dubious.

what i heard was that Bob Marley was a prophet for Rastafari.thats why he gets the support.its religious music for the people of Jamaica with revolution placed in it coz of the inequal treatment to Jamaicans and others in other countries.
