hole on my jazz bass

hey hav anybody who owns a fender american standard jazz bass hav opened up deir pickguard to find a hole in d middle.. it looks like a machine drilled hole underneath d pickguard... is dis normal? i hav another friend who has d same problem..

It's normal. Ask them and they'll probably tell you it's some kind of special "sonic-chamber" that amplifies the subharmonic frequencies of your low notes giving them extra growl and punch
