Music: CHILD’S PLAY EP
We are pleased to announce the release of Q-Dot + Hakeemok's Child's Play! The album is set for release on January 11th, 2014.
Child’s Play is the debut collaborative EP by Q-Dot and Hakeemok of the StonedChillKids, and is also the first release from Sei Shuttle Records for 2014. At the time of conceptualization, both artists were relatively new in the Singapore Hip-Hop scene. However, both artists had different perspectives of ‘new kids’, as well as different personalities, which – surprisingly - blend well together, both onstage and in the studio.
Their different personalities led to interesting and unique exchanges between the two, as can be heard on each rap from the first to last track. Their distinct Singaporean is instantly recognizable throughout the project, as are their local references and slang. “Saying that something is 'child's play' means that it is easy - which is what we feel when we make Singapore Hip-Hop music relatable for both the mainstream and in the indie scenes.” explained Q-Dot. “Contrasting style of raps yet still sounding dope (slang for very good),” teased Hakeemok, when asked what audiences should expect from Child’s Play, “as Q-Dot is more on the serious vibe of rap, whereas I'm more to the laid back and playful kind. All in all, it's an art of 2 young teenagers living that ‘Void Deck Culture’.”
From the title track, Child’s Play, the deep Singaporean roots are apparent, with references to the public transportation system and the ‘Void Deck Culture’ that both artists represent. VD Life proudly anthems the lifestyle and culture they represent by referring to bubble tea under void decks, ordering roti prata at local coffee shops, and bicycle rides around the neighborhood. ‘Child’s Play’, therefore, will display both Q-Dot and Hakeemok’s unique representation of the StonedChillKids’ ‘Void Deck Culture’ in Singapore.
