hi tera. i suggest either you go with the popular studios such as snakeweed or studio 101 (malaysia) or search out for the studio with the best equipment possible and you do the role as a producer, get the engineer to do what you want. (in a case of conflicting ideas with the engineer, you might as well call the shots) . then after recording a nice clean you can try passing to another good mixing engineer, and send it somewhere out there in the world to master it. after all, highly likely someone out there has more exposure and experience. just watch the budget thats all.
it's true everyone has their own favourite studio, but in my opinion, maybe the one with the best compromise counts? compromise as in , the one with the most votes from normal consumers , band guys , audio engineers and most important , from YOU.
you can get your stuff to sound good but maybe it'll sound killer to a mixing engineer based on the art of mixing, but the one's paying for your cd , the end-consumer doesn't like it (they call it radio friendly i guess..). the posts, debates, fights, etc here in this thread can only help you gauge a better decision on where your money is gonna be best poured in.
