Does anyone know what the is the main problem? I can see a rather distinct groove marking in the hole of my high E string though, and the other holes do have abit of grooves, but not as deep as the high E one

Do you even bother reading my post? 8O

Over time the strings will cut ruts into the tip of the bridge hole and those will be sharp hence the string breaks.

It's natural wear and tear and doesn't just occur at the bridge but at the nut too. Excessive bending will escalate the problem as the string stretches and then goes back to normal hence cutting into the bridge and nut in a "saw-like" fashion.

hey bouncy, my sanding down and chamferring the bridge ferrule hole thing worked out well. high E hasnt broken since i last sanded the hole down. maybe you should try it, its just an easy 5 minute job which has worked well so far.

^ Thanks bro, but Beez actually told me not to do that, as it may worsen the rough edge and the sanding may take away the anti-rust coating hence leading to your bridge rusting. He gave me and alternative similar to which Crawl mentioned.

I presume it works well, even though the string snapped 3 days after I changed it as this time it snapped at the saddle, which was also "eaten up" by the string. Just got the saddle changed yesterday, hopefully it works now.

Still, all these DIY solutions won't last for long as the string will still "eat" into your bridge someday, so I'm saving up for a Gotoh perhaps 8)
