Hi all, seeking your advises.

Hiyo everyone,

I'm having quite a dilemma rite now.
Hoping to find pple with the same experiences.

I've been playing with a Yamaha ERG 121 since i bought it as a starter pack since 6-7yrs back.
My playing had been on and off, as in when i like a song I'll search it's tads and play for a short while then pack and keep it in the closet till my mood swings again. (Tat's explain my sucky skills.:p)

Recently i've decided to take my music more seriously by doing my own songs (after seeing wat the Mac garageband and the JamVox can do.), but then i found out my yamaha intonation is out:(, which is common i'm told, so i intend to bring it for a setup.

Then i chance upon the fender website and discover tat they've re-issue the Fender Mustang, i've always like how john frusciante from RHCP plays the Mustang and the Jaguar, specially the Mustang cos' of it's shorter fretboard (cos i've small hands :p).

so pals, should i setup my old yamaha or get the Mustang.
i know setting up is way cheaper, but is the Mustang worth the investment if i wanna go far?

Thanks for reading my yada yada~ i know it's quite long winded... :P

First of all, is it out of tune or intonation off? Is the neck warp?

Secondly, you already have the idea of buying a mustang growing in your head (Inception), so you're just seeking assurance from us to get it? In that case, get it. Don't deal with buyer's stress. Setting up that yamaha will not make it go away.

@faekildare, it sounds out of tune, specially when i move toward the bridge.
i think the saddles might need to do some adjustments.
and my worst nightmare would be the the neck warp... cos i notice the action is not even also.... sigh...

well, i notice u guys own 2nd, 3rd or more guitars, sadly I only have a EG121 throughout. Maybe i can consider owning a 2nd guitar, hmmmmm..... (evil totz)
after some re-consideration, i think Mustang can wait abit longer (provided Fender continues to produce the re-issue, if out-of-production then.....), setup should not cost much i guess... :D

@Likui, oh ya! Azu-nyan had her "mutton" rite? LOL!
i heard the mustang is quite popular in japan cos of it's size. :)

There should not be a need to move the saddles. It's prolly just a neck warp. Change new string and neck adjustment, it should be fine.

YAY! I like Azunyan!

get Fender mustang. Then can become Azusa!!

Otaku-ness is spreading across the forum...

Was in the same situation as you, i'd say do the setup first, doesn't hurt to have it play nicely even if you're getting the Mustang.

You could always do the set up yourself, isn't that difficult and you can save your money for Muttan later :p That's what I did, saved some for the LP i'm gasing for

LOL! azu-nyan have lots of fans out there eh~

neck setup usually cost around $50? no problem tat i'll go ask around.

at the meantime, anyone here owns a mustang?
frankly speakin, i've never heard it's sound upfront (clean without effects), most of the time it's from youtube or concert videos.

do it myself? hmmm.... i did change to a new set of strings but still it sounds out of tune, even the electric tuner said so. haha!
how do u solve the action problem? I'll try not to touch the saddle myself at least, as i was told adjusting the saddles is not an easy task.

Yea. Dun touch the saddles. If it's factory stock, it should not be screwed up.

I wanted a Mavis (Ishibashi house brand) Mustang and mod it to something i will like playing with. (All because of Azu-nyan) I realized it was a stupid idea. LOL.

LOL! I've a friend with a Mavis strats, it looks like a fender strats, sound like 1 and the price is 1/3 of a fender.
well it's not stupid eh, the search for the sound tat suit ourselves is neverending. :D
u have a picture of tat mavis mustang?

Nope. Even ishibashi didn't post up the Mavis mustang in their side. I saw it while i was in japan. They stuck an Azu-nyan pic with the price tag. Talk about japanese marketing.

I wanted to get one and do pick up swaps, scallop and stuff... but ....

The heck, later your guitar skill will turn 'nyann'
But actually I've just imported an Epi LP Plus Cherry Burst =X

Going to mod the PU first... with my current trusted TESLA VR-60s (or maybe OPUS-1)

Its most likely the truss rod, fixed my intonation problem after I adjusted mine.

??

Adjusting the saddle seems quite straight foward to me, alot simpler and less vexing to do then adjusting the truss rod (fear of damage to neck ). You can find loads of info online one, just google it. Can try this one: http://users.powernet.co.uk/guitars/setuptut.htm

But if you're afraid that you'd damage your guitar, just send it to a shop, alot less stressful :p

i googled on the truss rod adjustment, it looks kinda straight forward.
i shall go back and test test.... worst come to worst... send to luthier for setup... hahahaha!

Just be careful lor do slowly dun spoil the neck, later cost even more (although that might give you a good reason to get Muttan )

Depends on what kinda of bridge it is. If it's floyd rose kind.. lol... u really dun wanna touch it. Anyway, The point is, why fix something that is not spoiled right? I am pretty sure if his bridge is factory stock setting, chances are his intonation are not screwed.
From TS's description, his neck is definitely warp. Truss rod adjustment and string change are definitely necessary.
