Hi guys, really need ur help. i just bought an epiphone les paul standard yesterday and something is not working properly. When i turn my pickup selector to Treble and the 2 tone 2 volume knobs maxed out and amp at max volume the volume is so soft i cant hear a thing but when i turn it to rhythm i can hear it loud and clear. another thing, when i select both pickups, with 2 tone and 2 volume at max, i cant hear a thing but with 1 of the volume knobs adjusted to 9 i can hear it loud and clear. is there a problem with my guitar? sorry first time using les paul

each tone volume controls each pickup, but from what i can see,
it may be caused by electronics, did you try it out when you purchased it?
send it to Beez for full repair if thats the case.

now it works but im scared that it will happen again. its just 1 day old and this type of thing had to happen!

Electronics problem.. Happened the same to me the day I bought my Epi SG from Swee Lee.. Not to worry.. Nothing a little tech can't help with.. Send to Beez, or if you still have warranty, to Swee Lee (assuming you bought your Epi there)..

The receipt is the warranty..

But I warn you against sending your guitar there.. Beez you have to pay, maybe can fork out for better electronics.. I sent my SG there the day after I purchased it, they mishandled my guitar and mutilated my SG's back plate.. Cause the surface they put it on was rough.. If my guitar wasn't the faded edition and was satin or something, gone already liao..

send it to beez. i confirm your guitar will be at least twice as playable, add in orange drops, have a set up, and maintanence of electronics, your guitar would sound much much better. be prepared to pay around 80 or so though

most likely the wiring for the treble setting(bridge pickup) is wrong or problem with the volume pot(treble/bridge pickup).

for the first case, when pickup selector at treble, vol pot at max and still soft wheras selector switch at rhythm, vol is normal, thats a sign that theres some problem with the bridge pickup wiring or vol pot.

when in the middle position, depending on how the wiring is done at factory(or by original owner if its a 2nd hand instrument), theres 2 type of wiring for a 2 humbucker, 2 vol and 2 tone configuration

1) in middle position, turning either volume pot/tone pot, will affect both bridge(treble) and neck(rhythm) pickup

2) in middle position, each set of volume and tone pot will only control individual pickup. Thats to say, if you turn down the bridge pickup volume/tone pot, only vol/tone for bridge pickup will be affected and not affect the neck pickup vol/tone at all. The same thing apply when neck pickup is concern, only neck pickup vol/tone is affected and not bridge pickup

from the description, when in middle position, when both volume at max, you cant hear a thing, but by turning one down, you can hear it. The thing here would be, which vol control did you turn down.

to know which pickup is selected by the selector switch and its own volume/tone pot control, with the geetar connected to amp thats "on" use a small screwdriver or metallic thingy, gently tap on the pickup, you shud be able to hear the "thud" sound being amplified.

heh, if the above sounds too much, bring the guitar to geetar tech to take a look, they should be able to help you.
