Hi I'm new to home recording and i have been scrolling through posts and search results but i still have not been able to find an answer to this:

I have a Delta Audio M82 mixer, it is connected to an Alpha Lexicon and then into my iMac, i connecting it out from the send FX into the input on the alpha then the output of the alpha into the line in and there is a high pitched whine every time I record.

From what I have read is there a difference between live or recording mixers? why is there a high pitched whine when I up my computer volume through the mixer? is it a capacitor thing??

NEED HELPPP!!!!

Hi abelkoh8

This is for troubleshooting.

1. Disconnect the Alpha output -> Mixer Line In.
2. Monitor through the headphone on the Alpha
3. Record

Is there still anymore "high pitch whine"?

Actually, why do you use the Delta Audio M82 mixer at all? You can connect your instrument/microphone directly to the Alpha and get a clean audio signal path.

The whine could be caused by feedback aka loop. Sometimes you hear in karaoke room, when the microphone is too close to the speakers, it gives out a high pitch noise. This is the same thing.

How did you connect the Alpha output -> Mixer Line In? Was it into the mixer's channels?

Do you have a photo of your set up? Easier to see how it is been connected.

It's probably because auxes are not usually used that way. Usually, it is Aux send -> Alpha -> Aux Return on mixer. Connecting the Aux Return to the Line In of a channel will cause a feedback loop as each channel has a knob that controls the amount of signal to send to the aux channel.

See if your sound card allows you to record your aux return channel in your DAW. Alternatively, you could try to connect the Lexicon Alpha in insert mode instead of send mode. Depending on your recording mixer's implementation, you may be able to capture the affected signal.
