help: trade or upgrade

when one swaps the korean in-house pickups in the RG350, there is no guarantee the subsequant branded units would be 'better'. if it's still plugged into a small practice amp, tonal differences would be negligible.

basswood, as well as other wood types used to make guitar bodies, are graded components. besides the brand name & hierarchical considerations, it would translate to a difference in production cost.

eg: Ibanez GIO basswood vs Joe Satriani basswood

So what u mean is that there are differences in terms of quality of the parts as well..

Anyway i havent seen any RG550 reissue owners in singapore, only the dude selling it at the buy sell forum

Those Ibanez Signature models specifically state american basswood, to differentiate from the regular models.

Well…almost every pieces of guitar contribute to production cost. Not sure about quality of the screws but definitely different in tuner, bridge, painting process, wood grade, fret works etc and hard case. All those justify the price difference between regular RG and RG20th.

in case you never notice, the rg20th spots a different neck joint as oppose to the regular AANJ. you might not like it.

it must sport that block joint- otherwise it won't be a faithful replica 8)

wow seems like most of you recommend to just upgrade the pick-ups. i'm choosing between these two set-ups:

1. dmz air norton neck ; dmz evo2 bridge ; mid - n/a
2. dmz air norton neck ; dmz paf joe bridge

why the norton? love john petrucci's sound when the selector's on neck pup
why the evo2? love steve vai's wild wailing when he's using the bridge pup
why the paf joe? satch's sound versatility is awesome

keep em posts coming! thanks in advance!

happy shredding!

so guys someone watcha think of steve special compared to evo2 for a bridge pup and which would you prefer?

also, breed neck over air norton?

thanks!

hey mariachi, one thing to take note.
Petrucci's pups are wired in parallel, not series.
so if u wanna nail it, tell a tech u want the pups wired in parallel.
