my amp got three holes..one is for footswitch..the other for headphones n the last for imput..i plugged the guitar into the input..the for the cable leading to com which should i put??i tried headphones no sound..or isit need another adapter..???

First ensure that ur line in volume is not set to mute, or the volume for the line in is too low. I assume tat u line out from ur amp? If thats the case, u may need to turn up the volume abit, that is slightly louder than u use for practicing. failin which, check that ur cable is functional as well. And also check that ur connection to the soundcard is not loose.

This may sound silly but check everything in the signal chain. Starting from the guitar, ensure that the volume is up then next check that the guitar cable to the amp is working, next check that the amp volume and gain is turned up, next is the lineout cable, ensure that it is workin, next ensure that the cable is not plugged loosely to the soundcard, ensure that it is plugged into the line in jack, check that line in volume is turn up, not mute. Then lastly check that ur pc speakers is turned up too.

OF COURSE!!

1. you plug a headphone into your amp's headphone jack and listen if there's any sound?

if there's no sound,
a) adjust volume
b) check cable
c) check connector
d) change another headphone to test

if #1 ok, then

2. connect the output of your amp's headphone jack to your computer soundcard's line in or mic in and test if you can record anything.

3. if #2 fails, then
a) look at the software setting
b) check level
c) check cable

4. if #3 fails, then
a)connect a cd/mp3 player's headphone outout to the input of your computer soundcard. test if you can get the signal into the computer.

5. if #4 fails, plug one of those computer microphone into your soundcard and see if you can get the signal into the computer.

6. if #5 fails, let us know
a) what guitar amp you are using
b) what cable you are using
c) what computer you are using
d) which software you are using to do the recording
e) which soundcard you are using
f) attach a $20 on your computer screen for good luck

i gave up plugging into the com a long time ago.. it juz doesn't sound decent no matter how much i tweak it..
