Help on active bass pups on amps

Hey guys, I just wanna know if using an active pup bass on a single input amp (as in, only 1 jack, don't have active and normal input jack) would damage the amp? My bass is the yammy bb615 and amp is Line 6's LowDown LD15. Cause when I practice, once in awhile it'll have this loud crackling sound, even when I'm not hitting the string sometimes. Any help?

BB615 pups are not that hot, thus I dont think that's the problem. Cracking sound could be jack being pulled, or even cable problem. Or if your problem is like my BB615, I find my jack abit on the loose side and using the original PlanetWaves Custom Series cable (the old one with the 'spring' plug) have solved my cracking problem.

My guess is a loose jack, thats the most common source of the crackling noise u're describing. Wiggle your cable around, and you should know for sure.

Ahh okay! Didn't know that a loose jack would cause the crackling sound, cause my jack *is* loose. Lol. Any idea how much it would burn me for the maintenance?

hey, i have a question.

what if the preamp is active but the pick ups are not, should i put the jack into the active slot?

it's not really a matter of the bass being active or not... it's a matter of how hot the outpot is. active basses are usually relatively hot.

the difference between the 'active' and 'passive' input is that the active input has a pad, so everything through the active input becomes softer compared to the passive. if you plug a passive bass through the active input, it will become softer.

the reason why you do this is if the input level is too high, the amp might distort. we don't want distortion.

If I understand correctly, yamaha bb615 is not active pup (thus not that hot). the power is for the eq. with the powered eq, you may tweak the eq + or - to your liking. for passive bass, most of the time i'll set the tone (bass n treble) to max.
