hi softies!
i have a epiphone les pauls and its stock grover tuners..
but the problem is that the tuner for the first three strings are loose.. especially the G string.. its really annoying cuz its goes off tune the moment i do a full bend two or three times..
its there a way i can tighten it or must i bring it for service??
thanks!!

Hi there,

How did you come to the conclusion that they are loose?

Upon hearing that only the first 3 strings go out of tune after bends, I am suspecting that your stringing method is the culprit, not the tuner-heads themselves.

From my experience with Grovers, they are very stable, good-quality tuner-heads. And also, you are not experiencing problems with the lower 3 strings. So it is highly unlikely that the tuner-heads are at fault here.

The lower 3 strings are wound and much thicker, so they hold themselves in place relatively well even when strung poorly.

The higher 3 strings, which are usually plain and thinner, are much more susceptible to poor stringing technique.

Check out this out and learn how to string your guitar properly. They demonstrate the self-locking technique as well.

Update back here if the problem is solved or if it persists after doing a proper re-stringing.

tighten the tuner nut, screw and also screw that attaches the knob to the tuner - should sort itself out

Yeap what FGL said is very valid. Forgot to mention that.

The nuts and the screws at the back should be tightened too. The screw on the knob itself determines how tight/firmly the tuner-heads rotate.

Regarding restringing... The rule is that the more coils around the string post of the tuning pegs, the more stable the tuning. Especially for the unwounded strings.

For wound strings, 3 is enough. For unwound strings, more coils would be recommended, say 4-5 coils. 3 coils is a good start though. I find 3 coils quite stable already.
