Help! Need to dampen toms

I just got a new set today used, barely any wear on it, its a cheapy brand (Enforcer), only using it for practice. The toms and floor tom "ring out" too much, I want a more solid sound from them. How can I achieve this? I included a picture of the set so you can all make fun of it :)

Get coated heads (Evans g2 coated or Remo pinstripe) for your toms instead of clear heads.

Where to get??: Swee Lee for Remo or Ranking/Yamaha for Evans.
Price: Various. Depends on sizes.

you can reduce the rings by placing something on the toms, like using paper or tissue or cardboard,

cause it is just for practice, i guess u would not wanna spend on new skins....

then tune it real low after that...

Thanks, I'll give the materials a test this weekend. Wasn't sure if slapping something on the toms would do anything at all. Want them to sound really clean and sharp, not ringing out. Basically a rock kit. Song reference is Lars Ulrich's drums in ...And Justice For All is the sound I'm aiming for.

you cannot really hope to even replicate those sounds on a full live kit. those sounds are digitally enhanced and EQ'd and whatnot (i am bad at sound stuff, sorry xD)

i suggest you use O-rings and moongels or a wad of tissue paper and glue it to the head with some tape. these are however, remedies for poor tuning... a good, properly tuned head should give you a rock sound, fat, low, punchy, etc, with a bit of overtones that make the tom sing.

can suggest you read up THE drum tuning bible here at [ http://home.earthlink.net/~prof.sound/index.html ]

i would say. try retune your kit. make the batter and reso in the same pitch. for a gd tuning. then you can tape some tissue or use moon gel or o rings to dampen the sound they cut ring.
