Help me decide !

Hey guys .. i am a noob in guitars and i just started learning electric guitar so , i was about to buy a electric guitar to get started . I am thinking of getting this promotion package .

Since it's your first guitar, it doesn't really matter lah... Because you are still unsure of what is your preferred guitar shape, brand, etc.

For the package in the url provided, it is decent enough already.

Oh and most importantly, you should go to City Music and try first.

Oh, so you want a Les Paul typa guitar and something that can last you for a while? What's your budget? Do you have an amplifier now?

yea , that package that you saw , i can change the stratocaster one to a les paul one , if im not wrong , its called GS200 made by craftman , if change , they just add the value of the package lor , do you think it's worth it ? ( the gs 200 ) my budget (exclude amplifier ) and $400 - 500 bah .

Well, its up to you. Main important thing is that you must be happy with the guitar. Craftsman are good guitars all the same, so go down to City Music, test it out, and if you like it, go for it

What I think doesn't matter. Only what you feel and what you think matter the most. Since you like the shape, then just go try it.

And don't limit your choices to City Music only. Head down to Peninsular or Bras Basah to look at more guitars. For Peninsular, you can look for shops like Davis guitar, Guitar 77, Tymusic, Standard Value etc. Standard Value has some really cheap and good guitars.

Are you intending to buy the amplifier together with the guitar?

500 is actually a quite high budget for starter. The first electric i bought myself was secondhand 150 dollar Paul. I keep it for sentimental value. I'd recommend a secondhand Epi... If you can find one. Whether it's worth it or not depends on you. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Then, there's Craftsman, J. Suzuki (Davis), or those brandless kind off this forum, great stuff.

Hmmmmm actually i wouldn't want to get a 2nd hand Epi if i were you, especially if the seller's fussy about people thoroughly trying out the guitar before buying. I have experiences where i accompanied friends to get 2nd hand Epis, the sellers were damned fussy about testing. And knowing the QC of Epi..............well let's say i guessed that the sellers wanted to get rid of the thing bcos of the QC in the first place. Yeah. SV does have some great stuff, IMHO the shape doesn't REALLY matter but whatever suits you. I'd go with the citymusic package, mainly bcos it has a good amp.

Most of the problems i saw on Epis were the poor finishing. Mainly of the F holes and the paint. Other than that, it was fine. Find a reasonable seller then. One should definitely be allowed to try the guitar before buying anyway.

Haha well my friend knew all about the problems, so he embarked on a rather.............thorough test. After 2 hours the guy got fed up and left. I dunno about you but while this isn't wrong on my friend's part (he wasn't noodling or anything, just really checking everything), it is irritating. What would YOU do if faced with such a situation?
