Help for a DIY

wreckzalpedals

Hello everyone, I am new here and I wanted to continue on doing my hobby which you can find here. This is not to make any promotions or whatsoever, but I really wanted to continue my pedal building here in SG since I just flew in last February.

I have done a research in this forum and the only thing I found is this, I want to ask for your info regarding my queries.

Buying the parts in SG:

resistors, capacitors, semiconductors, and jacks
aluminum enclosure and 3pdt footswitch

Any suggestions are welcome, factor is I wanted to purchase locally if possible. I can give any ideas to aspirants who wanted to make pedals of their own and can give tips and techniques. We can help each other out on doing this endeavor.

Thank you.

resistors, capacitors, semiconductors, and jacks - Sim lim tower 3rd floor

aluminum enclosure(die cast type) and 3pdt footswitch (electro harmoix or equivalent) - Ty music center or soundwavesmm

http://www.soundwavesmm.com/catalog/

sim lim tower dont have 3pdt, only managed to find 2pdt

For diy purpose, the prices for parts from either RS comp or element14(ex farnell) aint attractive at all, unless buying in bulk.

Sim lim tower is at the junction of jalan besar and becoolen st, its the older looking building compared to sim lim square.

aluminum enclosure - think Martin Audio in Berlington Sq carries the Hammond line.
sim lim tower also have some for "wall mounting" electrical sockets in aluminium that could be used.

thanks for all the replies, it seems that I should go to Sim Lim Tower for the components..

if you know more stuffs, keep it coming. :D

sorry for asking in this thread....

talking about enclosure...
do you know guys where to buy blank aluminum RACK enclosure? 19" rack.... 8" depth

something similar to this hammond... or bud industries...

I need to use the ecnlosure for my DIY rack interface and dual line mixer project... :)

Nice to see another person picking up the hobby. I've built quite a few pedals in my time (do a search on my username) so maybe I can help you out a bit.

resistors, capacitors, semiconductors
- Sim Lim Tower will have lots. For Transistors and IC chips might need to hunt the various shops and even then you will not be able to find parts popular in effects but not in commercial electronics. Germanium transistors for example.

jacks
- Sim Lim Tower has, but they are mostly the cheapo kind. I prefer to get switchcraft or neutrik.

aluminum enclosure
- You can order from singapore.rs-online.com. They used to ship for free when you purchase above $100, maybe the policy hasn't changed. Look for the Hammond Aluminium Diecast enclosures for the typical size and look.

3PDT
- You're out of local options here. You can get 3pdt toggle switches from Sim Lim Tower but almost impossible to find footswitch. I found before once, but they were horrible quality.

I highly recommend http://www.smallbearelec.com to get EVERYTHING. That's what I did during the later part of making pedals, before I retired from the business.

BTW I still have lots of supplies. Boxes full of neatly arranged resistors (about 20-50 of every value you'll need), enclosures, 3PDTs, Jacks, etc. Let me go take stock of what I have, see if you wanna buy from me.

Sidenote, my proudest project (which I have been using for the last 3 years):

A tuner-octavedownfuzz-octaveupfuzz-fuzz-wah-drive-boost-pitch-delay-delay-trem-chorus-phase-filter-reverb-compressor

and a volume pedal.

great to know that.. thanks for the reply, your project was amazing, hope to hear from you more, please check my works here .

anyway, I have been doing it for quite a long time and stopped when I came here to SG. My main concern about building the pedal is the drilling part, I lived in an HDB and the drilling would be very noisy, is it allowed? can I drill inside my unit?

I can conclude that I will be buying from:

rs-online = enclosure
sim lim tower = components
ebay (maybe)? = 3pdt

Don't think drilling is a problem, unless you have really fussy neighbors or you drill at really weird times. Even if they complain, you're allowed a certain level of noise during the day, and drilling aluminium is way below that I think.

Nice pedals, I think you built way more than me haha.

Haha I forgot all about this. Shall need to go gather all my stuff. Will try to update here with a list of what I have tonight.

Hey hey took a while but here's the list. Sorry for the crappy pics, lighting is bad at night. Prices don't include what I paid for in shipping

Smallbear resistor kits bought at USD$16.95 per box (4 of them):

Various enclosures I have left, on average about USD$10 each I guess:

B size enclosures I experimented with swirl painting then didn't do any work on. About USD$8 I think:

16 3PDTs USD$8.50 each

Various pots, about $0.50 each i think:

Zvex style pots, about $0.50-$1 each i think:

4PDT! USD$12 each:

Momentary Normally-Open switches, USD$4 each:

Various Switchcraft and Neutrik jacks, average about USD$1 each:

2.1mm DC jacks, USD$1.25 each:

Totaling to a bit less than USD$400, before considering all the shipping I paid for them. I'll give you everything for $300, which is to say, cheaper than the value of just the switches and the resistor kits. Everything else can treat as a happy bonus :)

Oh haha, $300 sgd dude.

BTW, email me at arkados_god (at) yahoo.com.sg if the price is right and you wanna deal :)
