an interesting thread..

if i may?

guys and gals, imagine this scenario. you score for yourself a working 6-nights paid gigs playing 3 sets a night. the job specs entails for you to do harmony and backups vocals. also to do blocking (choreograph dance moves) remember, you are also playing your guitar at the same time.

in my experience, you'd be hurting all over after your 1st night of work, cos 1. you have no stamina. 2. you cant perform at your optimum cos you gets tired easily. and 3. oh no, i've got to do the whole thing again, night after night after night.

it is the whole package guys, stamina, endurance and your performance standard go hand in hand.

10 years ago, i went on a 9-months european concert tour as a session guitarist for a well-known international artise. every morning, after reville, we, as a band, plus production crews and support staff will do running, swimming, and yoga sessions. we have warm-ups and warm-ups before and after each performance date. our diet are monitored constantly. all were done to keep us in peak performance level. we have light-outs too, you know. just like in the army....:)

the ability to just play your instrument well is not enough in the pro music world. your whole professional package as a working musician depends on all the points I highlighted above.

one more point, clubs/concert players generally don't sit during performances. the ability to "carry" your instrument ...hehe... depends on your stamina and fitness levels.

cheers everyone. I hope this will give you all an insight to what pro players the world over do everyday of their working lifes.

are you fat?

if yes, you cant use an LP..go to hell! kiddin bro!
its juz a matter of getting used to..use the guitar more often..

any plans for giggin?

I'm fat too...But all my guitars are les pauls :D no prob at all...in fact the gibson lp studio is one of the lightest les paul that I have ever owned...tho epiphone ultra still the lightest of all...

you know why there is this thread. HE WANNA TELL THE WORLD HES GETTING A GIBSON, HES A NOOB BUT HE DUNNO ANYTHING, COME MAKE STUPID THREAD HAOLIAN, THINK GIBSIN IS THE BEST. STUPID, PURE STUPID

Agreed... You need to be FIT. It's no joke playing 3 hour gigs night after night.

I've done pretty short pub tours in my years in the UK at the age of 17/18, and I still found those to be really tiring. And those were mainly 2 hour sets in smokey, rowdy english pubs for 2 to 3 weeks in a row, mainly on weekends. And there were no roadies to help us with equipment. Had to lug a 100w Marshall head and 4x10 cab everywhere I went. (I wonder why the school never thought of getting a combo!!!) Exhilarating, but taxing. No doubt, keeping fit would have helped.

What I find issue about this is that you're talking about going pro-level. This guy is a beginner. Hasn't really learnt his chops yet. Don't you think he needs to get his basics right? I mean, it's fine that he wants to keep fit. That's definately a good thing. I just think he's putting emphasis on the wrong priorities.

In my humblest opinion, I think it's not so much of being fit to the extend that you need to do intensive training. I think it's more of maintaining your health so that you can withstand the long working hours.

Yes, I think TS needs to re-think his priorities. I like the passion that he has for the guitar though, as long as it doesn't die out and he doesn't go overboard, he'll do fine.

i play with a LP. no problems playing on stage just that my shoulders ache after lugging it around from home to work and gig.

anyone interested to know my nafa results??? lol!

hey guys, u dont like the thread and/or the ts, JUST LEAVE THE THREAD ALONE, DONT TALK, DONT TYPE. HE DOESNT HAVE ANY PROBLEMS WITH U ALL. I'm not siding him. i'm siding newbies.

I am very sure that there are some people out there who owns this guitar who cannot do a single pull up, but they can as hell play some really wicked stuff on it even after having it on for 2 hours.

ME! ME! ME!!!!!!
the pull i cant, play wicked stuff i cant but i use gibson LP made in year 2000.

If I remember correctly, John Petrucci now outsizes Kerry King.

Yipee!! lol
i always perfer John Petrucci over Kerry King
haha,

and

And I can carry the guitar. i've tried. I've even tried carrying a 10kg bass with one hand (And yes, I can do it somewhat effortlessly)

try carrying the 10kg bass on your shoulder for 2 hours and tell me how you feel

but anyway i got a interesting question here
supposed you're very fat
and when i mean very fat you're obessed.
so your shoulders are pretty thick lah ( with fats)

so if you carry the les paul over your shoulder, will it still feel the strain after 2 hours?
i mean won't the fats cushion the weight?
haha

tat's just me being bored but
hell ya!
after reading this thread i'm entertained.
haha

your fats are still part of your body dude >_<

haha yeah true, but won't having more fats like make ur nervous system less responsive?
then you feel less strain, even though the strain is there lah
HAHA,
ok lah, juz crapping

haha owning a Gibson is nothing la . but good point . +1 to whatever you just said .

ooops....

Beginner guitarists..

hmmm, what I said still stands though. Except as a beginner,it is a good idea to cultivate the habits.

and practise,practise and practise....

PS...if cant carry your guitar for long, you should maybe get a lighter guitar. no point owning a guitar model you cant play.

:)

thanks bro, i just feel he is pissing me off.. a guitar newbie, showing off his gibson, haha, imagine he go and gig, come out gibson, plays rubbish.
