Halfstack Madness!

haha my neighbours make alot of noise whenever i crank up my amp...and its not even 1/10 the wattage of a 100w full stack. This is especially when i jam along to his son who keeps irritating me with his piano playing of Beethoven's Fur Elise.

Damn. My neighbours nvr complain when i guitar/drum.

Maybe cos my amp is in my room but the drumset is downstairs next to the wall~

Haha.

Hopefully in the future my neighbours are softies too hahahah so they understand the "NEED" to rock.

that's different bro. classical piano high class mah. your distorted guitar = rempit rock = low class. thats why they can play it loud, you can't. hahaha....

my one's not a stack, just a 10 watter, already the neighbours complain. Hahaha. I still remember my downstairs neighbours coming up at 12am and knocking at the door and me playing Blink 182. I just off the amp and went to bed. LOL. But that was the old days, now it's different. =D

ized...remember what i do to my JCM 2000 TSL 100 when i am bored at home...haha...volume number???i let Ized give the answer:twisted:

DIY ISO cab , long post.

if you have space, DIY an iso cab. :)

All you need is 1" thick MDF, cut into size to fit ur speaker cab, add in 3x the depth of the cab (distance from front to back) , screw everything together with mounting brackets, the top use hinges + draught extruders to line the opening. Seal the MDF sides with silicon glue, staple in acoustic dampening foam to make the box seem larger internally. get a mic and a mic pre and use headphones.

Tools required:-
Screwdrivers
Drill and drill bits
Silicon glue + gun

Total should cost you:- (rough estimate)

Mic - SM57 about 130
mic stand - 30 (get one with a wide and/or heavy base)
Mic pre - use a cheap yamaha mixer 200 (you already have a mixer so saved the money here)
MDF cut into size; get the shop to do it for u. find @ furniture maker - 200?
Wheels - 40
mounting brackets - 15
draught extruders - 15
hinges and latch - 15
2 or 3 pieces of acoustic dampening foam - $100-200 depending on grade and size

Assembly - 2 days

Day 1:-
Drill holes to install mounting brackets
Assemble the cab , less the top
Seal up all joints with silicon glue
stick on draught extruder
Drill and install wheels
Install hinges without the top
Let the silicon air for a day

Day 2:-
Staple in foam to line all sides including top
Install in the top

Put speaker cab in
adjust mic placement
Wire up to mixer/preamp and amp head
install headphones

Close it shut and latch
Rock out

Place the iso cab on a carpet, else the low end will get to ur neighbours
But it should be good and quiet even for late night noodling

Notes:

1) To make the cab more stable, do the following:
- Have the furniture store/lumber yard laminate a 1cm 3 layer plywood
- Assemble as above, but ensure plywood is on the outside
- Ensure that when mounting wheels, the wheels are aligned with your cab's wheels/rubber feet for even weight distribution (MDF will sag when placed under heavy stress)

2) DO NOT PLACE AMP HEAD / COMBOS INTO THE ISO CAB
- The tubes need air circulation to cool

3) You will need extra space in your room for this, its rather large.
This should be the dimensions of the iso cab.

Length ( your speaker cab + 14 cm )
Breath ( 3x your speaker cab + 5cm )
Height ( your speaker cab + 12cm )

My measurements given already account for 1" MDF use. If you add the 1cm plywood, you need to add 2cm to all given dimensions.

4) If you're using a half stack with this, I encourage to do a mockup without screwing, line with foam, wheel the half stack in place, then assemble the sides

5) This is better suited for a 1x12 or 2x12 cab as it will be a more manageable size.

6) A 1x12 or 2x12 is also ideal, because with this setup you can mic it up for gigs because you'd have purchased a mic and mixer

7) When disassembling without plywood laminate, make sure when reassembled, you get the screws nice and tight. MDF cannot handle multiple unscrewing / screwing as it will break off.

With this setup, it won't sound boxy as the internal space is quite large, the MDF will soak up a lot of volume, but some bass might leak through if you didn't silicon well, remedy it with carpet underneath.

With proper attention to detail and workman ship and no rushing, you'd get a nice iso cab.

Hope this helps.

You think this is bad, wait until they start playing the violin. I have a neighbour tat plays violin around 10pm+++. n the violin sounds awful. Dunno wat crap he or she playing.

1 day, couldn't take it anymore, crank up my amp n blast back. :P

Wahaha noize mortal combat! Anyone gone for fatality move yet lol hehe?? Btw half stack means u have a single cab of speakers depending on configuration for eg. 1X12, 2X12, 4X12 etc.....as for full stack it is the whole nine yards.....normally known as 2 full cabs of 4X12, but also depending on configuration, hope this helps, cheers!

haha dude i think that is really wayyyyyyy too loud for home use. My dad already tells me to turn down the volume when i blast my 10w, not to mention 100w full stack....that would just kill me and would be homeless for the next one week or so.

actually, i feel 50w is enoughlar. 100w is great, unless u plan to be Montley crue or some metal band, i dun think it's necessary. ( although it's kinda nice to own 1).

If scared loud, mayb can modify it n add the special nob that reduces voltage into the amp. ( like the vox valvetronix series amp). quite useful in lowering noise

Btw, Ceriatone is having a sale now. U can check their website out.

Yup same sentiments.....as for the ceriatone sale....i highly recommend their dc30 clone....eh called muchle$$ dizzy 30???

30W is v loud still
