Guitar Stand Shootout

i'll be getting two lovely guitars soon and i need to get some good guitar stands for them. i've heard stuff about guitars breaking from toppled stands and ruined finishes from materials on stands that'll corrode and eat away at nitro and other finishes.

so i did some research and found that most people seem to favour the Hercules brand of guitar stands due to it's specially formulated foam and apparent sturdiness.

however i'm still open to other options and i hope you guys would help.

i currently own a quiklok guitar stand for my cheap yamaha acoustic. the guitar would topple quite easily and the finish may get tarnish but i dont really care, haha.

anyone care to share what stands you use and their pros and cons?

im using this stand by Hercules.it is not the autograb one but its very sturdy and stable.i bought it at the sweelee sale this year and so far working very well. can be folded to save space.theres a neck support too.

well if you don't want to ruin the finishes on your guitar, you could just put towels on the parts where the guitar rest on the stand. :D

I thinking of getting those that you can screw into your walls. those only grab the neck one. any pros and cons about it ?

but are there any types of guitar stands specifically designed so it does not damage the nitro finish?

i didnt know abt this at first and now my les paul has a yellow mark on the neck cos of the damn stand ): plus its white.

now its in my case always when i'm not playing.

I have an idea of getting one that clamps on a piece of rig, a halfstack or something. You d have to knock down the cab to knock down the guitar.
Anybody ever seen one?

aero, niteblade: yeah hercules seems to be the best choice so far, you guys know if anyplace besides sweelee sells it?

funktastic: thats a practical idea.. but it could look kind of crummy

bonaparte: i read that that method shouldnt harm the guitar in anyway unless it's real heavy, could place undesired stress on the headstock. seems unlikely though. oh and make sure the guitar doesnt get scratched by the wall it is hanging on

dudelove: yeah.. the hercules stands supposedly have specially formulated foam which does not interact with nitro to blemish it in any way. i've heard that foam may disintegrate over time though so that's a consideration. your story is a sad one, one reason why i decided to get proper stands.

schon: well i guess you could use those wall clamps?

anyway, anyone have any opinion on the hercules single stands vs the double/triple stands? seems to be that single stands would be more sturdy

I'm using wall mounts as they save space since it's not practical to have a few guitar stands around my tiny room. The guitars won't come in contact with the walls as they're parallel with them. Also works well to keep annoying kids from handling them or accidental topples.

BonAparte: So far, I have no bad experiences with these wall mounts but I'm a little wary about putting my nitro-finish guitar on it without using some form of a cloth or something, hence I keep my nitro Gibson in the hardcase for safe-keeping. Oh, only downside to wall mounts is that you'll have to wipe your guitars regularly since they collect dust pretty easily! *lol*

I want to make one, thats mobile & u could clamp it on a solid piece of equiptment. Just wondering if anybody seen those before in blogs whatsoever, so we could get a rough layout plan..

elias: wow nice guitars damn

schon: well you could google.. may find somehting. wouldn't that compromise on stability though?

anyone has any opinions on the single vs the double/triple stands by hercules?

if you are thinking of Hercules, the one similar to the picture above, will also make the guitar topple easily.

BonAparte: I use the wall mount only for my acoustic, its light so its fine. Electric... Not if its a les paul...

Elias: You're right! Not only that, cause I live near the sea, my strings rust HORRIBLY quick...

Normally keep my electric in her bag in the closet (reason for it being in the closet, bought in secret... hahah... parents have no knowledge...)
