guitar(s) -> keyboard amp

Do u think its safe to plug 2 guitars into a keyboard amp. cause from what i have read, keyboard amps have been made to accomodate a greater range of sounds than the normal eletric guitar amp. Would it wear the keyboard amp down even if i dont play at high volumes? has any1 tried or doing this?

keyboard amps are quite ok for guitars. shouldn't be a problem. just that it won't sound that great (though there are some keyboard amps i tried which is quite decent).

keyboard amps works best when using a guitar preamp like the Tech21 Sansamp pedals.

Actually, its more of the other way round lah... but yeah! :D

I'm using my Sansamp Original into a Keyboard amp.

I am also using a keyboard amp(peavey) and I'm pretty happy with the sound that I'm getting. But of course, the keyboard amp is the amp I plug into when i'm lazy to take out the other is too small

ic ic...so there is no danger plugging the guitar into the keyboard amp yea? thanks alot...but how about plugging more than 1 gutiar at a time?

I once played with a keyboard amp that seemed to have a safety circuit. When I turned on the boost on my board the amp shut off the sound. After I turn off the boost then the sound came back after a few seconds.

Tube guitar amps will take the boost with glee, and most solid state guitar amps i've played can handle it though they don't like it too much. But I'm not too sure about the technology of keyboard amps.

I would say just be careful of what you put into the keyboard amp. They are probably designed to take the standard keyboard input, and may not do well with the very varied levels we are used to giving guitar amps.

check the manual, email the customer support

Most amp are design to take one input. If your keyboard amp can take 2 instrument. It will be stated in the manual. If not it is not safe. Email the manufacturer for advice.

Accomadate greater range does not mean it can take more than 1 instrument.
If you compare the range of a piano and guitar - guitar is kind of in the mid range of a piano. It is referring to the freq. response

Can't think of any good reason for using a keyboard amp unless you are using a amp modeller.

Its usually ok for 1 instrument to 2 amps via a Y cable. But not the other way around
:!:

o..tts cos...ive got a budget of 400 to buy 2 amps for guitar. but i think at that price the amps would be rather small.. so i saw the 100watt keyboard amp with 2 inputs from smarvo...btw..its for church use..

keyboard amp

Some guitar amp has both Hi and Low inputs, but only one can be used at anytime.
Not sure abt this for keyboard amp. Better check with the manufacturer.

Options 2: Stereo setup
Get 2 guitar amps + a stereo effects (e.g. chorus)

There are many multi-efx with stereo output. You can play stereo, or 2 guitars(with another guitarist) with 2 amps.

It's more versatile.

keyboard amps have 2 inputs which i guess can be used at the same time..cos ive seen many keyboardist who paly more than one keyboard at the same time.....sounds like its becoming a keyboard thread...erm...oki nyw... The smarvo 40W amp, are they still going at 180? cos i guess bvbuying 2 of those amps will be better thatn getting a keyboard amp for 2 gutiars..

I think in general it's ok to plug a guitar into a keyboard amp. But please DON'T CRANK the amp. It's not supposed to work like a guitar tube amp does.

A keyboard amp??!! Just because every major recorded electric guitarist in history (Les Paul, Jimi, EC, Page, Beck SRV, EVH, YJM, Petrucci, DiMeola, Nuno, Morello, etc....) didn't think of it shouldn't stop U from being an innovator. :P

baobaojon - how big of a congregation are you playing for? Regarding the smarvos 40 watt no doubt they are great amps for the price but they are what they are - practice amps.

My church uses Laney Keyboard amps for the guitars and they have been fine for 10+ years already =p Can plug 2 instruments into 1 of them but they have separate channels and eq though.

PLAy to bout a congreataion of 150-200

YUP that was wad i was thinking ...the smarvo 100watt keyboard with 3 channels... since i guess theres nothing wrong with running guitars into keyboard amps, prorobably get it.

I your'e plugging guitar or analogue effects in, please don't. Do yourself a favor, and try it b4 buying you'll realise that any reasonable guitar amp will sound better. The only time u plug a guitar into a k/b amp will be when you're using an amp modeller or multieffects with modelling tech.

Granted if you're talking about accoustic guitar maybe still acceptable (barely), but no way for electric. Anyway for accoustic can go straight to P.A. I assume that you're buying for your church since u mentioned the word congregation.

Since u have to ask, i assume that you're not the church guitarist, but looking to save money by buying an amp that can so called do everything. Trust me it won't work. Your guitarist will put u on his hate list!!! Have u consulted your guitarists on this issue? Don't even consider buying an amp and have 2 people share it as well. Why cos guitarists (any musician) when playing would need to hear himself/herself. Having 2 people share would make it more difficult to do that and adjust the individual tone. I would be very angry if the one doing the purchasing did that to me.

Actually can try the behringer 30w at $250 each. Try to get them to up the budget by $100. If not, the pathfinder 15w should be gd enough. Just mike it up. Anyway as far as i know in church we try to keep the stage vol down.

I hope this helps and God bless your church.

This is why there is a separate eq for each channel on a k/b amp. For my church we are all using amp modellers so it goes alright with our amps.

Truth be told, with a budget that low it is quite impossible to find 2 decent amps for a congregation of 150-200.

The pathfinder 15w will still sound small even after being miked up because of it's inherent small speaker cone. Miking it up will make it sound louder but not bigger. Of course this can be settled by having a separate cab extension but it will complicate things further.

I like the behringers more than the smarvo 8)

My advice: if you do not need 2 amps urgently, just buy 1 first and save up for the next. With the upcoming swee lee sale $400 is quite alot. I recommend the Peavey Bandit 112 Transtube series. Quite the bargain at the sales price.

Hey bro, these fellas are LOUD. Don't underestimate them.

yups I have one :P but really too bright for my liking. They lack a certain depth imo. Compared to a peavey transtube 112 they really fade into the background. And speaking from a church's point of view, sound quality really affects worship, but this is strictly controlversial.
