Hey all. Which shops are good for doing finishing/pickup replacements?
I wanna refinish my BFG to a lacquer finish probably just a single color not sunburst. Maybe change pickups as well. Where can i find a BFG truss rod cover?
Can anyone recommend a shop if possible :D?
Thanks for all the help

Am I right in thinking that the purpose of a refinish if for your BFG to have a wet and glossy look as opposed to the current satin finish? If so, you can actually DIY with a bit of effort.

I hadn't seen a brick and mortar guitar shop in sg that does refinishing up to my standards. I think a few softies offer a much better refinishing service, though I can't rmb who they are. Perhaps they would like to chip in.

Don't DIY with a gibson plz... especially if inexperienced
Any mistakes would devalue it heavily,
cos it's probably gona be irreversible.

No, I was thinking if what OT was looking for is a glossier finish as opposed to a flat finish, can simply use one of those catalysted oil finishes by rubbing it on. Very hard to screw up as long as you don't rush like hell and is definitely diy-able even for first timers. Just a rag and the oil would suffice. It won't be as glossy as a urethane finish though.

Here's a pic of a bass done with tru-oil:

Shredcow has also done it before so you may want to ask him if you're interested, guitar141.

Hmm seekz, if he's already going to refinish the BFG it would be devalued already no matter the type of refinish he's going to do??

If I had a Gibson those days when I was starting out... I would love and caress it day in day out all night long without even thinking of doing anything to it.
