Hey guys!

Im a total newbie and im just curious whether a getting a better guitar or a better amp would be more impt! :D

Do hope someone could enlighten me haha
Thks :D

Well there is a saying that the amp makes up 70% of your tone, that plus personal experience, I would say that getting a good amp is better than getting a good guitar. You can play a custom shop boutique guitar worth thousands of dollars thru a cheap amp eg. TGM, and the tone you'll get out of that will be quite terrible.

However, if you take a cheap guitar, eg. Squier affinity series and play it through a good amp, you'll still be able to tweak pretty good tones out of it.

That's my 2 cents about this issue anyways. Some may disagree.

I assume you play at home most of the time so I'd suggest a better amp but if you play out quite a lot, a good guitar can be a better investment. What do you play and whats your budget? I can suggest a fender twin but if you play metal and you budget is $200 it'll be redundant.

Contrary to what most people here are saying, actually, I believe a good guitar is much more important than a good amp. Though an amp is important in getting the sound that you want, your fingers first come into direct contact with the strings. If your guitar has a bad neck, lousy pickups, lousy wood, poor workmanship, bad intonation, etc. An amp can solve none of these problems if your fundamental tone is bad.

If you're buying something on a budget, more of your money should go toward the guitar. It'll go a long way in helping you to become a better player.

True to a certain extent. Oh well I just there are just those who belong in different schools of thought. But IMO the way to go is to get a decent guitar, with a good amp.

To the TS, what guitar and amp do you use? Since you can only choose 1 out of the 2, its always better to upgrade the weaker one. Your tone is only as good as your weakest link. So which do you think is the weaker link?

Btw, for 200 your choices for guitar and amps are very limited.. Probably not much of an upgrade compared to what you have now.

I personally think that there isn't much you can get for 200 dollars, but if it were me, at that stage in my playing, i'd just get a guitar first. Try getting a second hand one, you might be able to get better value.

I bought it for about like 300-400 plus. And i had totally no idea on what to start on, so i figured out that this was the best option and price for me. Im regretting it now, thus, i asked for better options :D

It's good for the price. But now you definitely shouldn't spend money on another starter set, just work with what you have at the moment. Until your playing improves, then you might want to consider upgrading to a better guitar.

yea, don't "upgrade" to another starter set imo. you can't get much with $200 after the initial investment. try saving up more and improve on your playing along the way.
