Guitar effects on "Vertigo"

For those who have heard U2's latest single, Vertigo, the first thing that might have caught your ears might be the metallic, sonorous guitar effect at the front part of the song. Any takers as to how it is done?
 
O i think i know what u mean....thats just resting the hand on the strings to mute so u get that chunk sound. Edge uses herdim picks upside down to get the ka chink sound. If u see the Elevation DVD during beautiful day u might hear lotsa chinking sounds that because of the rapsy end.

its sort of a pinch harmonic thingy(i think). no need any special pick or guitar .use a pick, hit the strings, some where between the pickups and palm mute it almost immediately. it would work best when u turn up the treble and gain .
