I'm new to this forum, and hope someone can advise me.

Did a general adjustment for my original vintage 1962 Fender Start with Guitar Connection, and Kevin( think is the boss) asked if I want to clean up my old electronics. I go ahead with it, thinking he will just clean it up to smooth things up.

Overall paid near to $200 for adjustment work, say uneven frets, etc.... All seems ok at first, but when I plugged in to my usual amp at home, it sounded diff. Since I'm going to re-string to a new coated set I just bought, I remove the pickguard and found that my old electronics has been replaced without my approval. Call Kevin and was given some excuses 'already ask if you want to service' , the so call clean up was actually to clean off my original electronics. He won't even return the parts and said he thrown them away. Made a Police Report and was told nothing much can be done.

Does anyone has this encounter or it's me who's unlucky.....what can I do ????? Someone please help.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I have never seen such stupid excuses in my life. What kind of idiot equates servicing to a complete swap of electronics WITHOUT telling the customer and throws away a set of perfectly good electronics, especially vintage stuff.

Truly, a joke of the local industry.

The smell of the shop already put me off... Smoke smell can tahan, can't describe what's that inside, won't want to even leave my guitar there.

They have a history of doing this kinda "bait and switch", but it's hard to prove anything, and like you said, police don't even bother. At least you just lost some components, not your pickups or other vintage parts...

Well, losing the entire original electronics (and they're in working condition) will decrease the value of the OP's vintage guitar. For an all original vintage '62 Fender strat, we're talking thousands of dollars in "lost value". It's as good as stealing. Maybe the OP ought to speak to his lawyer to seek some legal redress if our useless police decide everything is "non-sizeable offence".

And I wonder what GC's usual supporters and spin-doctor brigade got to say about this.

I'm not downplaying the loss at all. Of course it affects the OP. Just saying l've heard of much worse.

Also, doubt they threw it away. Smart thing to do would be reuse it in one of their own guitars to make it more authentic to vintage specs and raise the value.

This Kelvin dude is a legend for being a rip off since his days at Guitar Workshop. He's known to rip out parts from customers guitars, keep it or sell it and then replace it with crappy cheapo parts. And when you question him, he tries to play "gangster" with you. He's a class act when it comes to being a prick and a wanker! After what he did to my friend's guitar way back in the 90s, no way i'll ever do business with him.

I've had a similar encounter in the said shop. All I can say is this guy is dodgy. He really does take out your good stuff and swap it out for crappy ones. It's not hear-say. How do I know? (My friend works there and told me personally)

A report should be done. One isolated incident won't amount to much. But rallying ALL whom he has conned to create a petition will amount to something being done.

Please, we need less indecent pricks in the industry!

Reputable my ass. GC is a farking jackass shop. Few months ago i got my Fender Custom Shop 57 strat over there for a pickup selector job (weird sounds produced when switching). I said i wanted a switchcraft selector. That kelvin guy say: "I'll do swee swee for you confirm chop".

Cut the story short, FARK that Kelvin. Tested at the shop after completion, i felt the tone was kinda different so i asked him. He say: "where got. No difference." C'mon i played this axe for 4 years you think i stupid? I asked him to open up the pick guard for me to inspect the circuit inside. He gave a dickface. To my horror, i realize he swapped out my us vintage pups for some idunnodumbchinafarkpups. Lucky i took pictures of the original stuff inside before i send for servicing. I confronted him and he say no such thing. Kept denying until i got no choice.

STAY AWAY FROM THAT FARKING DOG SHOP GUYS!

I've heard of GC's "wonderful" practice of swapping parts from my friends and guitar teachers before. Not surprising at all. And I wonder who would go to such a shop with such a layout to do his guitar servicing. The TS shld have gone to mike @ SV or BEEz. Vintage guitars are nt cheap u know, especially when it is a 40 over yrs Strat. No offence and nt looking for any trouble.

Everytime I log on to soft.com and I see a GC thread, majority/most/99% of the time is always about their dodgy work ethics.

SIGH! A real let down and disgrace to the local industry indeed. Like the local teochew dialect always says, MIA SIA CHAO (reputation smelly oreadi)....

I feel very disappointed after reading all these posts. Not a single positive comment. What is this? Just because some random guy on soft tells you his "account", doesn't mean it's true right? If there was really a police report being made, do you really think business will run as per normal?

I can tell you guys for a fact, I work for GC. I'm doing their paper work & accounts & I've been working there for almost half a year now.

I know every single repair that comes in (I do the filing). I can tell you guys for a fact that no 1962 Fender Stratocaster nor 1957 Fender reissue came into the store for repair. Not within the past 3 years at least. The guys at the repair store have been taking pictures of the repairs they have done since then. For those 2 people who claimed that they sent the guitar in for repair, tell me the job number and I'll check it. Prove it to me that this repair existed.

When was the repair done? Who did the repair? I've been a customer of Guitar Connection ever since 2004 & never once was there an occurrence of swapped pickups and stuff. They charge $35 for a pickup swap and repairs have been piling up, is it even possible to do a swap? tarnish your shop reputation for a few hundred dollars? which idiot in the business would do that?

Ridiculous claims. You can say there can't be smoke if there is no fire. What I can say is, PROVE YOUR ACCOUNTS. Digging out records is no problem for me & we have all the right to take action against people who tarnish the reputation of our shop without justification.

I'm disappointed. truly am.

If you guys want pictures of vintage fender pickups or custom shop pickups, I can show you as reference. I've been buying guitars like mad over the years & I've seen enough to tell the difference.

My knowledge and experience has always been free. what I don't like is that people who don't know their stuff talk as if they do.

Yes you are damn right, when I question him, he start to turn aggressive and scold me so loud I think 1st floor can even hear, and like what you said, he turn gangster and wanted to beat me up taking a stool up.

I actually did ask a lawyer friend of mine, and was told it's going to waste money trying to sue him, unless I'm some big shot. I heard from a few bros here he's quite well-known for such low-down tactic since Guitar Workshop days. Too bad I didn't do my homework before sending guitar over....maybe my parts are on eBay now...heard they has his own eBay store.

Is there no other way to counter these type of people ? So unjust......
