Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has a definite idea as to what wood is used on the GSA60. I've wood ranging from Mahongany body from Ibanez's website

Ibanez :: Electric Guitars :: GSA60

As well as agathis and basswood from some of the sites that I've googled. So currently now I'm super confused as to what exactly is the wood used, cause I don't think its mahongany cause it seems abit too light.

Just trying to shed some light on this guitar. Not sure if it helps but the serial is I010705586

Abit too light? Maybe they have weight relief like Les Paul. hahaha. Should be mahogany since the site stated it.

This is confusing stuff boy... Musiciansfriend and most of the online stores been too shows its agathis... My friend also told me that its basswood for some of the models.

Surprisingly, even if its agathis, its lighter as compared to my SE100 squier which is definitely made of agathis as most squiers are made of...

There can be light agathis and there can be heavy agathis and likewise for any wood from any big tree. Wood will have a range of density and there will be variance here and there.

Even if there are 2 planks of wood coming from the same tree you may have different densities eg from the bottom trunk which is old and compressed from the years of living vs the top part of the tree that is still relatively young.

But then of course there will be this argument about QC and how much the manufacturer is commited to use only certain woods of certain density for this certain model etc etc etc... IF ANY.

Tell tale sign of basswood, hack a bit of paint off some hidden part of the guitar. Do you see creamy white wood thats a bit soft? That is probably basswood... or jelutong... or MAMYWOOOOOFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!

If I'm not wrong the first GSA60s came with agathis bodies, then it became basswood and then 2008 onwards, mahogany. My GSA60's basswood :cool:.

Note though, the GSA bodies are slightly thicker than the SA bodies.
