GreenMango - articles on local music

The founders frequent this forum in the past, looking for new stuff to cover. Can't remember what was her nick though. The thing is part of the FYP/ school project in NTU.

Haven't been updated for some time. Guess school's over eh?

..

imho, i feel that the myx recordings was a tad dry, too clean. if they can capture their live feel in the studio...

but still, i disagree with the reviewer.

I'm just thinking, she can choose to dislike what she hears and all that, it's ok. They dun have to like everything that comes their way. But as a reviewer, the wordings, the way of writing, her tone and all that can be more polished than that.

well she makes a good mainstream critic I'd say.
but her reviews just say one thing to me : biased.
critics should only review the type of genre they show favour to if they're gonna "wack" feedback like that. I thought we're supposed to promote local cds here not diss em.

I love and i bought the B Quartet cd.

I didn't hear the albums, but I did hear the Ugly in the Morning demo they had on their website.

I would have to say that Ugly in the Morning sound MUCH better live. (Subsequently why one should watch their gigs.) I do agree that UITM's album (judging from the demo) didn't sound as good as I would have thought it to be.

I do feel her review lacked depth though. Both reviews were rather short and touches on the surface without going into much details.

if its bad i'll say it. that's why i felt that the b-quartet ep didn't truely reflect their musicianship.

btw, i used your baybeats b-quartet vids and ripped it into my metale mp3 playa. :)
killer stuff there...

I think we need more critics like this in Singapore, honest reviews and not sugar coated, if an album sucks, it sucks, you can't change the fact that an sg band has a typical sg band sound and expect the critics to say different things about it. Personally, a refreshing change after I puke, cursed and tried to kill my own mother for hearing too much guilty compliments from Singapore Idol judges on TV.
