I'm a great fan of telecasters but I can't afford to own one at the moment.

Besides Squire, are there any brands that make good enough copies that's affordable?

Try 'SX'...My friend own one SX Les Paul Copy...it's quite good and it cost around $200 with amp, tuner, cable and Pick...But unfortunately he does'nt have Tele..My sis's friend own one Fender Tele but he bought it from the Internet and it cost him $1000+ but it's worth it...
So try 'SX' if you can't afford Fender or Squire

erm. squier california tele less than 300. i saw it in ranking, don't know if it's still there. or you can also try craftsmen telecaster from, citymusic.

@ NabilFitriMusic: I'm not interested in Les Pauls, sorry.

@ LadyInTears: Thanks I'll check out Ranking.

@ teleplayer: What's the difference between the california series and normal series?

@ matthewchj: Where can I try out J&D telecasters?

Get them craftsman man, for around 200 plus abit, you get a tele with a alder body, string through body and the classic 3 saddles type bridge...whooo...The neck is thin too, nice playability.

Shine Telecasters are really quite solid for the price, you know. decent cleans, though you would do well to upgrade after you're done with it. not the best, but worth the money.

Greg Bennett by Samick also makes guitars like telecasters but they're not exactly Telecaster copies. Similar, but also noticeably different. I guess if you want an accurate Telecaster copy, I'd recommend J&D and Craftsman.

The affinity tele will probably sound better than the cali tele, as the affinity has an alder body compared to the agathis body of the cali. Of course, it's probably more expensive, too.

J&D guitars can be found at Music Theme as well as Ranking, IIRC. The J&D tele I have is alder bodied, with the three saddle string-through bridge. Mine's natural with a maple fretboard. Used to have a white pickguard, but i swapped mine for a black one. Looks as sexy as hell, somewhat like a '52 tele.

EDIT: This is the specific model and specs: http://www.jandd-guitars.com/jd-tl.htm

Well, price is proportional to quality some of the time. Of course, there are some cheap brands that are super good and bang-for-your-buck. I've heard of people who own cheap $300 Fender copies that can actually compete with the real thing.

it's all a matter of perspective right? haha. many people also feel that edwards/burny les paul are better than gibsons one but there're also people who feel that gibsons are the best.
