hey dudes!..anyone has a good distortion pedal to recommend..?.. am lookin to get like.. john petrucci's or mikeal akerfeldt's tone.. =D

I've always loved John petrucci's tone and i've always try to find a pedal that can acchieve that unfortunately, cannot be found.
But so far some of the best pedals I've heard , Blackstar HT Blackfire (I owned it), Wampler triple wreck ( I owned it), Wampler pinnacle, Ibanez tube king.
You can try all these pedals unfortunately the Blackstar HT blackfire is no more available in singapore but if you want to try it, just pm me come my house try.

yup i suppose the triple wreck can nail the JP tone u are looking for since its a mesa triple rect in a box hahah.

I dunno about playing it at high volumes/gig level but for low level JP playing but for any hi gain distortion pedals you can try to boost the bass and mids to about 70 percent and cut the treble to 30 percent for a start, and adjust accordingly, even better if there is a mid freq knob can get your pedal to sound more JPish by adjusting it.

You would probably need an overdrive pedal to push the front end of your distortion pedal too, with gain set low and volume set high. Then you wont have to set the gain too high on your distortion pedal and as a result it should give you more clarity. You would also probably need some warm sounding analog delay going on too.

Hahah JP tone rocks btw

I played on mesa boogie rectifier b4, the wampler triple wreck cannot fight leh with the real mesa boogie amp, way off ah

Don't know much about the guys you're talking about but the trip wreck seems to be too bassy and scooped for me. From what I remember Petruccui's tone is more crunchy than the trip wreck. Maybe the emma reeza, tech 21 california or if you're on a budget the boss md-2.

I'm curious as to what you setup is too. Its near impossible to get those tones with a small amp, speaker and a strat etc.

hahah thx guys for the recommends.. im using a blackstar ht 5 for my amp.. and for guitar i use a schecter zv wif seymour jb..in standard tuning =)

Do you mean that extra upper mid range bite? If its an EQ thing then you can solve it with an EQ, treble boost or a more cutting overdrive to push the HT-5. I have a HT-5 as well and although I don't use the distiortion much I remeber it to be more warm sounding rather than biting.

im not sure... i just nid that.. extra 'edge'.. lolol cnt be described..x.x

the gain not high enough and tone too warm right?
I also got that problem but that's the blackstar signature tone. warm tone sound
I also trying to find distortion pedals, so far maybe wampler pinnacle is ok lah u try lah see if you like

get an overdrive pedal to push the amp's distortion. Tubescreamer/tubescreamer clones work well as a boost pedal with gain set low and volume set high. You can get a compressor too preferably with an attack knob and set the attack relatively high when doing the JP kinda shredding stuff i guess.

In short with a nice sweet amp distortion u have there you shouldnt be looking for a single high gain distortion pedal. MAybe try to increase the gain stages(compressor, overdrives) and perhaps you will find the sound u are looking for.

Since you have an effects loop in your amp maybe you can wire up a low impedance volume pedal in the effects loop and then crank up your amp volume to get that post amp tube distortion and then attenuate the volume using your volume pedal.

Yep just my 2 cents :D

Agreed. The HT-5 has a bassy, warm and kinda scooped distortion. It should pair well with the bass cut and mid boost of the TS. You can try an EQ pedal too, that way you can lower the mids to make use of the ISF (If thats what you want) and get that edge from the distortion.
