Good Distortion Pedal right now?

i wondered if you have tried the modtone speedbox dist. I really like the tone alot, bought it from SV at only 75 bucks, i really like the tone cause like its not really too harsh or hardcore like in terms of its gain but also at the same time its not really like a v weak dist. Rly quite good pedal and quite value for money

Wow, didnt even know this thread existed! Guess it must be due to how busy I am.... :)

the better bigger and badder it sounds. itll maim and destroy most distortion units. ive found it cuts through great both recording and live.

I agree.... The seventheaven is badass live. Had it for 2 years already and counting, and it still delivers the goods live. Bedroom guitarists wont covet it as there are no smooth tones to be had. You wont get any Santana tones out of it (unless you boost it with a fuzz which I tried with surprisingly great results), but if you want something in the ballpark of a Diezel or Bogner in a pedal format, it will get you there.

This was at the recent SOFT band gathering...seventheaven on the red channel (high gain mode). Rhythms was big, crunchy, articulate and clear, while my leads were liquid and saturated enough with the help of my Pure Drive(timmy/ts type OD) boosting the 7th's front end. My other guitarist faizal_rocks used a 7th too, and ironically, alot of people commented that we didn't sound local. haha.

Check out these vids of the 7th being used live, in a band setting....it was quite loud considering how small the place was and it was pretty packed too :)

For that price I highly recommend you check out the Punch Tone, made by Scott from Sound Alchemy. It's a great sounding marhsall in a box, lots of gain on tap, without the high end fizzness.

I just use a Proco RAT and FDII and be done with the day..... awesome in live playing. beats any 300 ++ out there IMHO

Isnt the Fulltone Fulldrive 2 a pedal in the 200-300 ballpark also? I sense a contradiction in your statement.

Anyways, the FullDrive is a tubescreamer clone....

Woah the seventhheaven sounded awesome.
Just can't describe it in words.

Yup I agree with Ized, my co-guitarist..the 7th is an awesome pedal. During that gig, I was using the green channel with a Dano CC Drive V1 pedal boosting the 7th's front end...works for me...hehe :)

Not too sure about the threadstarter's setup but do take note that the tone of the 7th, from my experience, is highly dependent on the equipment to which it is coupled, espcially the amp. The tone is drastically (dare I say... day and night) different if you play it through a 15W practice amp as compared to a 100+W Jazz Chorus or the clean channel of an amp. Even amongst the high wattage amps, the tone you get varies from amp to amp. The volume you play it at also makes a difference too.

Other than those considerations, it's an extremely versatile unit.

Yay for you TS.

High gained units? Several out there that really do a good job.

Personally im using the Suhr Riot. Its a very sweet sounding pedal for classic - hard rock even metal (when pushed) tones.
It adds that nazal quality and smoothness admit that crunch it can provide. When set properly it sounds like an angry Marshall JCM.. Definitely good stuff if you prefer a pedal u can just set into a fixed setting and play, providing even a mids option to either scoop flat or round the mids.

Tone shaping wise the 7th is an amazing pedal providing u with a wide variety of tones from the weirdest sounds ( Ized should know who im refering to lol. ) to the juiciest ones even emulating several amps pretty nicely. For its price i'd say its a more than worthy investment.

Cheers.

Good distortion pedal. . plenty actually , just what you u like. heres a few that i like

Blackstar distx ( but i guess the other blackstar tube pedals sound great too, didn't get to try all except for the drive and distx, heard the dual is good too)
Mi Audio Crunch Box
Suhr Riot
Pedaltank G2

I agree.....I think 7th heaven with dimed treble, scooped mids is the best setting ever! with a EHX DMM (in the wettest setting)it can make even the most ardent post-rock fan pee in his pants!!

ROFL.

Hmm after hearing all the hype about the 7th must try it someday. Anywhere I can do so?

Really loving my Riot, killed my gas for distortion pedals

Still faithful with my ds-1 japan...but with a recent simple mod.
I know this may make purist scream.I took out D4 and D5 diode...the sound now is pure heaven!!!!
Get a cheap a used DS-1 and try out the mod.
