getting a delay pedal for my brother for his bday. heard the new DD-3's sound is thin compared to the old model. DD-6 any good? or any other cool brands worth checking out?

i'm no guitar player myself so i wouldnt know wad's good or not. heh.

Thx!

There's a 2nd hand Ibanez DE-7 on Luther's Classifieds right now. Very very nice Delay/Echo pedal.... the Echo is amazingly warm.

Line 6 DL-4 is amazing but I didn't get it because if you read the Harmony Central reviews, you'll get scared to shit about the reliability issues.

Line 6 Echo park is not bad, very versatile. Most people who like the DL-4 tones don't like the echo park tones, and vice-versa. Personally I prefer the DL-4 tones.

I have the Boss DD-20. The tones don't impress me that much but they do the job. I got it because it has a looping function (sound on sound) which I like to use to jam with myself. Can add layers and layers of sound, very fun.

These are the one's i've tried. DD-6 is used by Joe Perry and The Edge. I haven't actually used one myself but I reckon that means it's pretty darn good.

oh no, yet another delay thread. but any thread about delay is good! muahaha.

I'd say go for the Digitech Digidelay... i used to have one and its a totally bang for the buck pedal. Great sounds, great usability. Excellent stuff.

I dont know if keith can really tell the difference tus...

But I used the DD-3 before ifyou noticed sounded pretty good to me. Very little sucking.. but then again it was an old model. I second the DE-7 from Ibanez..

otherwise... eletro harmonix memory man?

I think the DD3's a good sounding delay pedal. I'm using one now and it's not giving any problems :)

the DD3 isn't transparent to my ears... but i like that tone!

if you find DD3 thin... it might be because the battery life on the pedal is low. That thing eats batteries for supper man.

wowww!!! i love delays/echo to the verge of being addicted to them! hehehehehh...

ok, 1st off i think u need to know what u r using it for. if its just for just simple slapback delay or normal delay usage without a need for accurate tempo/repeat timing, then a Boss DD3 or Ibanez DE7 will do. the DD3 is very "crisp, hard/harsh sounding" to some, whereas the DE7 has got option of analog/echo sound for "warmer sounds." but the downfall for both is, the delay will stop as soon as u switch-off/stomp-off on the pedal. meaning the delay trail will abruptly stopshort.

to counter that there is the Boss DD5 (discontinued) and DD6 and Digitech Digidelay. these pedals will let the delay effect to trail-off even after u've switched them off. no abrupt cut on the delay trails like the DD3 or DE7. and they have an option to do tap-tempo too! what is that? well, that is the option of setting ur tempo/repeats by tapping. this results in accurate delay times as oppose to "guessing". the Digitech Digidelay have the option of tape/analog delay sounds too. suppose to sound warmer.

if u need a few delay presets at one time as appose to just one delay, u can try the Boss DD20 or Line 6 DL4. i have not tried the DL4 but it seems great from reviews, but needs hand/ears on for me to judge. i've tried the DD20 and i loved it. u can have 5 pressts (i think!)and different delay sounds (echo, tape, etc...). but the downside is u have to scroll through the presets to get to the one u need, as oppose to having one button for each preset, like the DL4. but that is a small matter as who will change a few different delay sounds in a song? hmmmmmm... maybe there is.

anw, try before u buy. coz u might have diffrent needs/ears. hope this helps... sorry for the long post tho...

hmm i don't have that on my DD3. is it because it's newer?

hmmmm... that's interesting.

u try to play something with the delay on. then switch it off. try listening carefully. before the delay trail off, it will stop as soon as u stomp on the pedal.

if by any chance they changed on the "newer DD3", then it will be good for all users then. but i've never come across that from all of the ones i've used. old or new...

I'm gonna reply this like an ignorant fool.

Get an Echoczar!!!! I heard that it is THE DELAY to get.

How do I know?

I read the reviews!

Echo czar is darn good. But the price and wait time is erm..

oh yes its the best thing that ever happened to the delay world. Its so amazing. Its the warmest, fattest, most controllable analogue delay in the planet. Its the bomb.

Oh sorry... I forgot to add...

"I HEARD...."

brundisium.... my sentiments exactly.

I heard the pre(insert 2 digit year here) from (insert brand name here) is soo much better than current production (insert the same brand name here).

You can use that also for country of make, suitable for certain genres and many many others. Its soooo flexible!!!

No hands on don't talk so much. I heard I heard is like wet market aunties talking about hearing that the chickens from stall 18 is infected with bird flu.
