hi i wanna buy a bass can anione give advice on wat i should look up for when buying a bass? And wat do ya mean by fretless?

When you want to buy a bass, the most important thing to look out for is the sound.

There are too many people out there who buy a guitar or bass because they look cool, only to discover that they don't like the sound a few months later.

It'll be hard for you to pick out which bass sounds good to you, so it's a good idea to bring along a more experienced person to give you a second opinion.

As for fretless basses, they are basses which do not have frets. Kinda like violins and upright basses.

wanna buy my bass? i gotta get rid of it. it's in perfect condition. :D

Forgot to mention:

Don't write off second hand basses. I started on a first hand Peavey Jbass clone, but didn't really do much with it....it just seemed too pretty.

I gave in to temptation and bought a beat up old Japanese Fender Jazz Bass from Cash Convertors, and never looked back.

It sounded like the voice of god to me, and was already beat up, so I didn't worry about screwing it up....I just played the hell out of it!

The good thing about old basses is that you spend more time worrying about your playing than about the fingerprints on your shiny finish.

buy a bass because it sounds good rather than because of the brand-name factor or aesthetic factor. how the bass sounds represents you, the bassist, most!

Because the precision pickup has a more "hollow" sound as compared to the Jazz "growl". It's a bit hard to explain without sound samples la. However, a P+J or P+MM configuration significantly increases the tonal range of the bass and allows for a nice slap tone if done right.

Which means I probably should get started on those... :/

i think stu's jpj is like a franken studio bass. all the sounds u'll need for a studio session. makes an excellent workhorse bass if u do cover band material.

I've got a FrankenFender of my own too! My Cash Convertor MIJ Jazz Bass is running a JPJ EMG setup. The pickups are closer together than Stu's tho'.

Running all of them together get's a wickedly tight, ultra-ballsey slap tone. Love playing that one, but it's a bitch to gig with. Heavy lump, that one.

As for P/J setups, I find those with reverse Ps are great for slapping! Tight bottom end, with really meaty top pops.

By popular demand! No lah....it's because the pics in the bass gallery are lost in the middle already.

Thanks! Are you referring to the Red one?

That's the Frankenstein. I adopted it from Cash Convertors in 2001....it's been modded a few times through the years.

nv knew cash converters held such gems man. how much did u get it for? and how did u manage to try? were there amps and stuff?
