Good Bass Amps

@lordie
cool, but erm, my budget is around 600+ only :/
hey I saw this Hartke Hydrive 112C, ever tried it before? it's another kickback design.
250W this time. What do you think?
no idea try to google for sound clips for the hydrive, never try it b4

i tried the hartke a25 before and was very unimpressed. there is a general belief that bass amps, below a certain size and wattage, just don't cut it. a bass amp needs to push air to get the lows, period. you can forget about those 10W 8" combos. frankly, you'd do well to forget the a25 as well. go for the a35 at least.

i haven't had experiences with the hydrive but i've tried the metal cone models. at loud volumes, they start to sound very thin for my liking. if you had 8 10s pushing a wall of air i guess it may be compensated, but that's just how i rate the metal cones.

hartke has a new line of paper cone amps. check out the samsontech site.

peavey makes loud amps.

Thanks lordie N Shinobi.
I'll be going for a A100 hartke tomorrow =)
115C is over my budget~
A100's 100W 15" should last for while.

Again, thanks to all who contributed. Really helpful and insightful~

I just realised that I don't have a need for amps as much as up to 100watts now.

So any suggestions for bass amps that can be used as practice amps and loud enough for small - regular gigs? Thanks! :)

Looking for a good bass and treble tone this time hahas.

Try out everything... everything is every shop.. until u find something comfortable.
Alternatively, if u do not need to project ur bass sound.. and just need for practice.. u can buy a mixer with USB... to act as ur sound card and also mixer.. in tat way, u can use the mixer to record... to play your mp3 from ur comp thru your normal speakers(but be careful if ur speakers cant take low bass frequencies) or using a good pair of headphones.

After getting mine, I didnt touch my bass amp anymore... :(

I just got myself a 12" EBS Drome combo at only SGD$900. Excellent tone and punch. Nothing beats an EBS, seriously.

Tested it through my Nordy VJ 5. The clarity was astounding. And that is with everything set flat. Through the Uber 212 cab alone, it was full and punchy. Adding the 210 cab at the bottom added a bit more depth to the bass.

All that has been said about this setup is true. A very warm, clean sound that leaves you wanting for more. The uber bass cabs just rock.

Only gripe is... its bulky(compared to the miniscule shuttle 3.0 - 10" combo), but then again .. the size is needed for the oopmh in the sound. That said, the 3.0 combo sounds very good for it size... (I din try... but I think i can lift it up with one finger... no kidding.)

Have yet to go through all the eq and golobal signal shape properly, but with such versitility, its going to take a very long time to fully utilise. (If i even get there... it sounds good flat.)

Can't wait to use it tmr!!!
