Godspeed64's Open Jam!

Dude - the track is a tough track.

If you asked Satriani to play over this - sure, he can do it. Starry Starry Night anyone?

Give it to Vai or Mattias... and they might be going - wait a minute... this... really sounds like a "Play the Pentatonic Over Me" track, given their inclination for doing different-sounding stuff.

I'm not saying pentatonics are bad or boring or you know.. just.. that the track itself doesn't really inspire out of the box playing so much.

That said... you sound like Oasis.

And if you're asking about your own personal identity... well, let's be frank and objective. You play straight repetitive phrases, lots of pentatonics, straight-forward runs, sticking to a shape or 2, and its not like you had lots of vibrato/bendy spots to showcase a possibility-unique-style. What say you? Would that be unique? Do you think there's a pool of similar sounding guitarists?

I think you can decide for yourself.

I also think its perfectly fine to repeat a phrase a lot of times. Problem is - that's all that is being done. A carbon copy, copy & paste. There's little variety and more predictability. That is fine if you need to achieve a certain vibe - but imagine ever other solo you cut sounds like... that? Woah.

A simple thing you can do to experiment with less standard, straight timing could be - to vary when you start your familiar phrases. Start them all a little off-beat. Toy with the rhythm. Could you leave more space? Play a familiar phrase 2 notes in, then stop, skip the next note - leaving a gap there. Funny how the listener's mind would often 'fill in the blanks'. You know... stuff like that...

I was dreading the moment for Daniel to post cause I knew it was an echo of my own thoughts..

Indeed, I myself find bored listening to the track, waiting for the guitarist to do something different for a change.. My playing ended up being generic after a while, like the same old same old things..

At the same time, I don't think after 3 years of playing names like Vai and Satch should pop out on a video like mine man! Haha.. I just need to hear confirmation of my own feelings, because I do not want to be judged alongside people like em (plus I'd rather be judged with people I consider are my heroes anyways)..

And FINALLY! Someone notice the obvious Oasis inspiration from the opening lick!

Plus, the video will be removed by tomorrow.. I often take videos to analyze my own playing at the end.. Just intended to share one for a while!

What can I say? I kick butt!!!

Hahaha...

Frankly - recording oneself is the best medium for improvement. You watch it over and over again... ahhhh take note how to improve. 2 months time - you relook it and there you go, you realise your bends were slightly out of tune. Another look after a year - and you go "yuck!!!! I played like THAT?!?" :D Improvement thru critical self-reflection. Or find people who will critique your playing well and hound them. I did that with some friends - the results were very interesting and beneficial. Thought provoking.

That said - being odd/unique sounding isn't necessarily the bees knees. Ever met someone who sounded so unique that... eh, he can't really play anything else except that style! That could be bad. Can be good - if you just really want that one special sounding style.

So - keep your videos if you can. Place them in private viewing only. Then review yourself. :)

Yeahh.. Have plenty of my own videos.. It's actually for me.. Just this once decided to see how others react and whether it confirms my train of thought!

Nice Man.Give you 5/5 star seriously. You used 4 fingers..Is like 'COOL' for me.
Coz I only use 3 fingers..Awesome,not bad,perfect.
I think if you add-on a little bit of solo,it will be great.
I will rate your video later coz now I am busy looking at the Forums 24/7
