1st of all, how to get make our country beleive in our national team? Forget about going back to M-League...sure, we had our glory days decades ago in the M-cup and all and it really united us. I'm sure most of us have the mindset of the only way to rekindle interest is to go back to M-League. This is definitely taking a step backward.
As of today, the Lions have made further progress in the WCQ rounds than Malaysia. And quite recently, our S-League clubs are fairing better than the M-League clubs in the Asian Champions League. I agree with Grain that we should send our young local talents overseas to gain exposure, experience and raise their bars to a whole new level.
But nowadays, playing sports as a career is frowned upon by many so the kids think that getting good grades, going to good schools and get a job with great pay is the way to good life here. I think we should throw this mentality out of the window and do what we think its best for us, regardless of what everyone says..so as long as u put in the effort and work hard in ur dreams, it can be acheived.
This is what I hope to see in the national team as the years go by in this decade, more local homegrown talent and most of them playing in overseas clubs.
Noh Alam Shah and Ridhuan playing for Arema Malang is a good thing for them and they are getting popular with the Arema fans. Anyone seen the Arema fans at their home ground? All of them filled up the stadium and really sang songs loudly with their hands waving...I'd like to see that happen here..
