Goal 2010

i saw it the other day on torrent, believe it didnt get to the local theatre like the 2nd movie whr he got into madrid

^dude smlj, i believe thread starter talking bout Goal 2010 - Singapore's Goal to enter World Cup by year 2010. It was scrapped a long time ago, almost as soon as it was implemented. Singapore sometimes really unrealistic when it comes to sports. It's like saying Goal 2010 - Singapore will have an artiste win a grammy for Best Song or Best Director at the Oscars. Damn sad ah, we need to accept the fact that we are limited in talent before we make such big goals. And this was way before we had foreigners play for us.

dude it's not about the small population, it's about the sports culture. there are other countries out there with small population yet they can produce world class athletes.

wrong frequency as you guys... thought you guys were talking bout some movie..

i played in the singapore youth league before, too much commitments, juggling school etc, and i had the opportunity to sign up with the national youth team, but again, too much commitments, too little time

Goal 2010 is a joke. the promise to bring singapore to the world cup. and now, we even have problems watching the world cup...
That's goal 2010 for you.

just look at how many hours of sports content in our national free to air channel? and YOG is coming soon.
the whole sports industry in singapore is becoming a joke.....

That's true I guess, I was just being politically correct. But small population plays a part as it leads to other things. Think about it, would Singapore rather have 1 great world class athlete or 1 great economist/engineer? Who would benefit us more? It all comes down to size and our need to survive as a country.

I actually went to wiki this cause it interests me. Some African and N/ S.American countries with really small populations like Jamaica, Panama, Puerto Rico, Norway etc have had world class athletes. Our sports culture is non-existant. I personally know many people who play their sport which they are VERY good in only as a part time thing. Everything is about exam results, good secure job with high pay etc. Just look at the packed crowds that fill America college football games, COLLEGE mind you, not even their NFL league etc.

The only way we can reach 2010 is if we import 11 foreigners for first team.

I think it's more like an own goal.

Try winning the Sea Games Gold medal first, that should be a better goal.

First, the govern body of the sports itself need to wake their idea up... people are not going to march to the stadium if they're not providing entertainment...
Tell me what you want when you're paying let say $15 for a match.
- HALF TIME SHOW?
- A BIG SCREEN SHOWING THE MATCH?
- GOOD FOOTBALL?
- MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE MATCH? (MATCHDAY PROGRAM AND ALL THE PLAYERS NEWS)
- MORE INTERACTION WITH THE AUDIENCE?
- MOOD OF THE STADIUM? (DEPENDS ON HOW CROWDED THE STADIUM IS)
- PROPER MEDIA COVERAGE OF PRE-MATCH?

just see how many points FAS got here....

xoxoxoxoxoxox-2

All this can be achieved ...provided they spending the Right Amount of $$$$$ and also Spendin it on the right ppl and activitities....

We were in the Malaysia Cups long time ago..Those were the Days when we really see UNITY in us All not forgetting also the KALLANG WAVE...and all that was done sincerely and not gettin sum1 to force all at the stands to do it....
Win or Lose its still GO LIONS GO...!!!! REFEREE KAYOOOO.....!!!! and all that...

As for GOAL 2010, this is what i think...Send our younger talented players to all the best soccer schools in the world...., invest in them...make sure they Dream BIG and achieve it. Its all about the Standards and exposure.......
Regardless of the kind of sports we hv here.

1st of all, how to get make our country beleive in our national team? Forget about going back to M-League...sure, we had our glory days decades ago in the M-cup and all and it really united us. I'm sure most of us have the mindset of the only way to rekindle interest is to go back to M-League. This is definitely taking a step backward.

As of today, the Lions have made further progress in the WCQ rounds than Malaysia. And quite recently, our S-League clubs are fairing better than the M-League clubs in the Asian Champions League. I agree with Grain that we should send our young local talents overseas to gain exposure, experience and raise their bars to a whole new level.

But nowadays, playing sports as a career is frowned upon by many so the kids think that getting good grades, going to good schools and get a job with great pay is the way to good life here. I think we should throw this mentality out of the window and do what we think its best for us, regardless of what everyone says..so as long as u put in the effort and work hard in ur dreams, it can be acheived.

This is what I hope to see in the national team as the years go by in this decade, more local homegrown talent and most of them playing in overseas clubs.

Noh Alam Shah and Ridhuan playing for Arema Malang is a good thing for them and they are getting popular with the Arema fans. Anyone seen the Arema fans at their home ground? All of them filled up the stadium and really sang songs loudly with their hands waving...I'd like to see that happen here..:P
