what's the diff between epip and gibson?? arent both of them the same company or sub-companies?? and they sorta make e same guitars too.. except tt why is epi so much cheaper?

Epiphone is licensed to make Gibson-esque models but they aren't American. this pretty much explains the huge price difference. if you hope to get a replication of a Gibson tone/ feel from an Epi, i suggest you re-think your option. if i were you, i would not limit myself to just these 2 brand names...

epiphone is to gibson like what squier is to fender.

basically epiphone and squier can use the shapes and sizes and features of gibsons and fender respectively, but it tends to be that epiphone and squier are marketed at the lower end/mid range market while the gibsons and fenders are marketed midrange/high end.

Oh yeah...... :P

Gibby LPs use Honduran Mahoghany, while Epi uses commercial grade. Materials for other models also differ from Gibson ones... and neck profile etc...

thanks for e replies.. haha cleared my doubts.. oh well.. i know other guitar brands are also good.. yupyup i heard esp and ibanez are choice guitars too eh?

anw is the sg any good anyhow?? haha how does the sg sound compared to an ibanez rg series?

gibson vs ibanez: 2 different philosophies at work. IMO there's no one guitar brand that comprehensively outperforms another brand name. it's all about personal preferences & the inclinations towards certain offerings.

to answer your question, the SG & RG differ greatly- feel-wise & tone wise. the SG represents the set-neck pedigree while the RG is arguably one of the best contemporary bolt-on guitar this side of fender...

I'm using the SG 61' Reissue. Tone is fat, real fat for such a light guitar (even lighter than my Parker Nitefly by a great margin).

that's what i like about the SGs, they generate good tones, without being excessively massive. there are too many guitars today which manifest this philosophy, who ever said that the guitar must weigh a tonne to sound good?

a little sidetracking: if you wanna listen to thick, distorted SG tones, check out this album by Corrosion of Conformity: BLIND it's kinda old but those sick SG tones are jawdroppers...

Personally,

SGs have balls unlike RGs. Real balls and gutsy, when heavily distorted in a very in-your-face manner. Excellent! Clean is not bad too though I much prefer Fenders.
