Gibson has a very weird marketing team.

Everdying

im not really sure of the exact import/export restrictions of the US. But thats the whole point you see.. why dont you think godin wants to put Made in Canada?

i think its because these companys openly tell people where their parts come from.
perhaps its stated assembled in usa?? its like how a mex strat cant be passed off as
an american strat? and the price difference between made in usa and made in mexico speaks for itself. Importing components to manufacture a final product is ok i believe.

i dunno , maybe only if the most important processes are applied in the country of assembly then it can be coined made there? im just guessing.

i dont think all the little parts in my japanese product are made in japan. sure got some imported from korea/china... etc..

Ah . . yes .. like the Epiphone JohnLennon Casino ... it states "Assembled In USA" & costs a premium price .... but the luthier wood-works & parts are from japan ....

Another thing ... don't b fool by the term "Masonite" ..

Cheers

btw, heres one good reason why their team should be killed.
the below is a new SG that debuted at NAMM recently, yea 3 single coils, wtf.

besides all these...

my gripe with gibson is that they released and sell steinberger's synapse ONLY thro musician's friend and musician's friend ain't that friendly to overseas shipping. what gives lah?

I think their motto is to ride on their past success like the SG, Explorer and the Les Paul. They certainly lack creativity and innovations. But that's just my opinion...

Not that they lack imo, it just happens that new models don't sell. Same with Fender "innovations" in the 80-90s.

if Gibson chooses to dish out single coil equipped guitars, let them be. they might be testing waters for other offerings besides their usual humbucker equipped units but they will soon know that some things are just not their forte.

if fender can slap on P90 and Humbuckers....

gibson can slap on fender single coils and dano lipstick pickups!

lipsticks got the mojohhhhhhh.......

Well, both Gibson and Fender keep putting out new products, many of which are substandard compared to much earlier versions, because people are so captivated by owning one. It started in the 60's with the Mustang, Gibson had some really cheapo guitars in the 70s (like the marauder and the S-1) and we won't even talk about what happened to Fender in the 70s, and now there are so many re issues and artist versions my head keeps spinning. And yet people are suckers and keep buying. And yes, so many other manufacturers are making excellent (better!) guitars, but they don't have the brand recognition of F and G. Until you and I stop buying Gibsons and Fenders this will continue as aprt of the quest for ever increasing profits.

df: if one's into looks, the lipsticks will never appeal, fans of tone will have something in store with them...

can't speak for Gibson- not a real fan, own the product just for variety...

as for Fender, the budget units that were churned out (Mustang/ Duo Sonic/ et al) are student models meant to offer an alternative of the Fender products themselves. the post-CBS team did real well to recognize what works for the brand name; the reason we see the strat/ tele/ p-bass/ jazz bass among others, retained & perpetuated. the quirky models of the 80s- performer/ the strat/ BUllet/ lead/ etc were too busy competing with other contemporary brand names which isn't quite the fender forte.

there is also this notion that guitars of yesteryears were better than the current production, which would trigger a debate as to whether this is justified...

sub: That's true...but it's very hard to play something that doesn't look nice, ain't it? That's for me...I know I'll never be able to play well with lipstickups on my guitar. It'll be too distracting, lol...

ah... i understand. that's how the guitar manufacturers make money, they offer variation in looks (people keep falling for the same guitar in different colours/ pickup offerings/ etc)...

I for one will at least try out the SG with lipsticks compared to the whole row of regular sg with the regular humbuckers. Never been a fan of SGs but I imagine how an SG would sound with lipsticks... NICE.

And even though the Duosonic are beginners guitar, its got a fair bit of mojo in it. Nice guitars you know...

I never thought the Mustang were budget guitars... were they?
