my new amp: Sound Drive RG-612R

sounddriveamppic1.jpg

why is the Les Paul there?

1. it's the final guitar i played through the amp before calling it a day...

2. to show how big the amp is (it's a 1x12)

3. to show how bright the illuminated control panel is- note reflection on guitar's body surface.

the Sound Drive RG612R is a solid state amp which many tube snobs would dismiss, until you plug a guitar in & play. you'd then wonder why many other solid state/ hybrid amps simply failed to manifest that tube warmth. in addition to this captivating offering, the overdrive on offer is simply fantastic. my preliminary description (review in the works) of the amp's tone: imagine a more dynamic Peavey 5150 with much top end trimmed & fat bass response in the mix. well, that's just one possibility 8)

IMO there are mex stds better than the mex anniversary series. but the mex guitars have pretty bad QC, so try out a few and buy the exact piece that you try, display model or out-of-the box.

as stated in previous posts, do check the Mex units thoroughly before parting with your $$$. i believe the 60th Ann Mex models are of better QC, genrally. however, there would be rotten apples (as with other brandnames) in the mix 8)

the price looks good for the amp! but i'm afraid it would be too loud for home use. how does the 40w compare to the 60w. i've been using an cheap amp for too long haha. thinking of getting one now.
