No, reissue meant that it is modeled after the year's model.

ST72, means its a 72 model.
Fender japan was commissioned/contracted to produce classic models that are year specific for the japanese market.

the Jap Fenders have to be models that are differentiated from the current official Fender offerings, this is why we see basswood body for certain models- not to say they are inaccurate & lousy, of course...

the japs get to produce under J-craft .. they dont make historically correct copies.

the MIA and MIJ are differenciated. Personally for me, i prefer MIA vintage strats ..

MIJ strats are made better. but they lose out abit in the tone dept imho.

I agree with you guys on this, the alder bodied ones are great IMO for their price.

And no i don't mean the MIJ are inferior, i actually think they rival the MIAs.

They are superbly crafted instruments.

But due to the terms of the contract, they can only offer different products as compared to the americans.

exactly. some people tend to compare the Jap units directly with the Am ones & dis the former on grounds of 'inaccuracies'. there are also others who are too MIJ inclined, they deem these to be more worthy than the Am units.

whatever the case, good guitars (in my books) remain to be good guitars, Jap/ American- doesn't matter, specs inaccuracies- doesn't matter also...

They are deemed more worthy than americans?

I guess value really depends on the individual.

But if it sounds and plays good, hey! Its a good instrument anyhow.
I'm glad someone feels the same way as I do.

i concur bro- it's strictly personal. i feel that the MIJs, however refined they may be, aren't quite the high end Fenders in the American catalogue. the Americans on the other hand, need to learn how 'less' can pull off some surprises in terms of playability & tone. this is the reason i believe in investing in both.

Exactly, the americans are doing a lot to 'beef' up their specs, the japs are just staying basic.

Thats why the vintage stuff is so expensive in the US.

Not to say the high end am deluxe stuff isn't good, they are great.

Investment wise, I'd say if it sounds good to you, the right person who'd buy it would also enjoy it.
