icic. last time i used to have the mindset that my tone can only be achieved by high output stuff but now i realise if u drive low output stuff on really high gain u get a real sweet tone.

but higher output pickups mantain their tightness and clarity at high gain better then their low output counterparts. not that i like overboard high output pickups

actually... i believe that lower output pickups sound better.

high output pickups like breed and X2N will push the amp harder. giving you better crunch etc...

but if you push the amp hard and pick harder with low output pickups imho sounds much better. not to mention you still retain nice warm cleans and your leads will sing.

Very interesting topic raised here - high output pups VS low output pups for high-gain tone.

perhaps someone should raise a new thread on this, quite informative for ppl like me who are relative newbies to experimenting with pickups

Lower output pickups will give you more dynamics. It also retains all the bell like chimes and gives a rich crunch when you whack the strings full force.

High output pickups tend to compress the sound. You usually get a tighter sound but lose certain frequencies, hence less richness.

I believe both have their purposes.
