From "JAMING" To "GETTING PAID"

the 6 nites a week - JOB mentality sent me thru a burn out in my 13th year of pop band clubbing. Especially working with charachters, that were more personal than professional. Was about to leave the clubbing work scene.....till vocalist Jatt Ali [spore's Ronnie James Dio] offered me to work, playing Rock instead, thus Ministry of Rock was born. total rebirth of passion man, the last 2 years +

im currently in-between your cat 2 n 3 myself, fgl, and really enjoying my music/job. 4 nites a week, with days for family and teaching. A rock guitarist dream club gig, in this land of pop cover music supremacy. the request we getting now at the House of Rock = Kill the king, viking, hallowed be thy name, gates of babylon, little wing, One [metallica], burn, inside looking out.....late 60s-early 90s rock/heavy metal. and we are playing the stuff too. totally different being paid to shred, i'll enjoy this ride while it lasts. cheers.

What covers? Why is it so hard to book that melodic death metal act but the guys doing Beatles and Eagles work every weekend?

I think death/black/(regardless howmelodic)metal fans always feel victimised as being underappreciated or not welcomed... Well, it really goes without saying...

Music with that amount of aggression would work perfectly in a place/audience with the same kinda engergy...

Thats why you hear lots of heavy metal music whenever a high profile wrestler walks out at the WWF... you cant expect the same everywhere.

To all those ppl who feel that metal is being underplayed... I'm not saying u can only play them at a wresting gig, LOL, but theres a time and a place for everything.

Especially not on a weekend when ppl's out to chill and chat with frens, its easier with beatles. LOL, if your originals are as good as beatles or eagles, then I'm sure the crowd wouldnt even know the difference until you tell them..

seeks - you got a valid point there.... I def dont see any metal bands / pub around (Zombie was perhaps closest thing) except dueing things like SBOTB battle of the bands....

hmmmm so is it true that someone playing non-commericalise music will have a slimmer chance of getting "paid" or doing public events since it doesnt appeal to the mass?

how can this be solved?
or is there any other solution if they wanna make it to the public?

hmmm ... i think .. in order to raise your chances of getting paid gigs.. its very important you cater to the audience's tastes. More people like pop ... then its what you gotta play.. its up to the audience man.

Hi FGL and everyone.

yes Ive seen you sing Hotel California a million times./HAHA, guess how many times i have to play the freaking solo for Sweet child o mine per nite?

HAHAHAAH

the truth of the matter is, you have to step out of your comfort zone while playing covers, you have to put in a lot of effort to learn songs, and basically your goal as a musician "shifts" from playing whatever makes you feel good, to whatever makes the crowd feel good.

Its quite fun actually, at first its difficult, but then when you see the crowd enjoying themselves, you can basically feed off their energy.

sometimes a 3 chord simple blues number like "mustang sally" is more entertaining and well received compared to say a full-time coordinated progressive number like "whipping post-allman bros"

quite fun lah actually, no real egoes involved(ive done originals recording before and i could not stand how there were so many people in love with their own voice (opiniated)and super egoistic.)maybe just bad luck huh.
