The most budget way i can think of is a paint marker and some good drawing skill! These paint will sit into the wood nicely(depending on how porous though) and if yours is a finished fretboard, it most prob will look even better!
Painting it will wear out some time but it's a way better method then sticker i suppose. Unless you want that "inlay" to be on for only a few gigs kinda idea.
